I'm in favour of 1 year stop to all the races and a brainwash for all the riders. so we can start again. Nibali, Millar and Phinney will be the first guinea-pigs for the brainwash (Taylor's still young, he MUST forget Merckx and Lance before it gets too late...)
...

Millar won't be around - this is his last year of riding....he could fund the effort though. :)

Euphemisms

Gary Imlach just asked David what he thought about Orica Greenedge's recent problems.

Millar replies that Impey had a postive control.

so he still cant bring himself to say DOPING.

that was that regarding the doping conversation - pathetic.

agreed that the dopers and enablers traditionally seem to have troubles using that particular word.
just open any random wiggins interview and you'll have trouble finding the d-word.
i don't doubt millar continued doping under garmin.
not heavily, but enough to ensure the occasional victory.
he must be the biggest hypocrit in the game, seizing a nr. 1 spot with brailsford and vaughters coming in at shared 2nd, closely behind.

When you compare Millar with Bassons when asked about doping, they are poles apart. Millar is not anti doping, he just trying to say the right things.

I don't get why this guy is so respected

I can't understand why Millar is so respected.

I've read his book, followed his career. I understand that his fall from grace led to the second act where he reinvented himself as an anti-doping crusader but I don't buy any of it.

Millar's book painted the picture of an entitled, capricious talent faced with a Hobson's choice - dope 'because everyone was doing it', or leave cycling.

It's the same bull**** argument made by all exposed dopers. Look at Hincapie et al. Their statements upon being banned from competition were practically 'copy and paste' replicas of each other. "Sorry to our friends and family; we were faced with a choice to either join everyone else and dope to compete or leave the sport."

Guess what? Bassons left the sport. Countless others never got the chance to even enter the sport because of dopers. I haven't read one account by a doper where they truly own their actions. Hamilton got close with his book, and whilst I have disdain for him as a rider, I respect the fact that he admits it was his decision to dope, his alone.

Yet here they all are; making a living out of cycling still. In the excellent BBC 5 Live radio documentary on doping in cycling "Peddlers", Millar demurely bandys around the idea of being in charge of some sort of truth and reconcilliation! When I heard it, all I could think of was "Are you ****ing Kidding me???" I don't know where Millar gets off acting like some born again anti-doping crusader. After his actions he should work quietly in the background to fight doping; but he can't, he has to be one of the sports 'personalities'. His ego needs it.

Read Nicole Cooke's valedictorian speech on her retirement and tell me the hairs on your neck aren't standing up from the power of her feelings.

Sorry if this is a bit of a rant, but it's something I feel very strongly about.

its a battle to balance not annoying other riders though isn't , cycling is cleaner that much we know how much cleaner we don't know, guys are still pushing the limits of what is legal and what isn't. Miller will surely be running his mouth now anyway

Well, yesterday on the US coverage on NBC universal, Millar was on for like 10 minutes...think I fast forwarded through most of it and barely listened to 5 seconds of what he said.

Came off like a cry baby...like most soccer players actually on the pitch faking penalties.

I kid...

The serious part, WTF do the US networks continually give these former riders the chance to sit on TV and commentate, when virtually every one lately has had a EPO/doping history??? What a joke. Great role models *eyes roll*. Then in the very next segment, have some story about young/clean talent like Talinsky, Phinney, TJ and the likes as the new face of cycling. All the while a former doper sits there when the camera turns back onto the crew after it.

They should just bring Lance on and have him commentate, but for some reason, he is black balled, while Millar and the rest are on TV giving their worthless two cents about races, providing no real insight as to what is going on typically that most don't already know watching, particularly people that race.

Good post that hits on all the right notes. Millar seems to carry all the worst traits the bad guys in cycling display. He doped, he lied, he made no major sacrifice in the name or anti doping, but wants to become it's leader and uses it's status to line his pockets. He is ultimate embodiment of someone profiting from their former doping, lining his pockets with books, hollywood advisor gigs, commentator positions. For someone who has doped and been caught he possesses 0 humility in the role. Worst of all he uses the status he has built up for himself - mostly with the help of the nationalistic media, to push his own agenda.

A lot of the people who complain about jallabert being a commentator or Riis being a ds have no problem with Millar.

When I heard he was missing the tour, I made a little holiday in my heart. Good.

Fell over himself on TV, repeatedly mentioning his doping suspension.

Yes, as if he was trying to score points for "honesty" or something.

Funny thing was, CVV and Bob Roll clammed right up on the issues. No acknowledgement from them, either way, as to what Millar was even referring to. I can just imagine what was ringing in their earpieces from the director.

god this bloke is so cheesy he makes me wana throw sumet at the tv.

Just craving attention all the time....'i,m so posh and my friends and family are all coming over from Hong Kong'.

perfectly fitting that David Millar was the winner of the most boring, worthless, soulless grand tour stage of all time.

worst stage on GT of all times ahah
points of view guys.
that was a great win for David after Danielson and Ryder fell and retired in the Metz big fall, and the tour went sh*t for his team. My yell when he crossed first, echoed on the hill in front of my house :D
I remember were I trained that day, what I ate, what I drank with my friends on that evening. not for the other 20 stages.

remember Thomas Dekker used to have Nibali's make when they were both charging. thats what happens when you basically do the cold turkey. millar never did the cold turkey. race radio has shown a few races where nibbles has just dropped out or rode in the wagon and then returned like the schlecks circa 2010
