A practical decision from the UCI. Until WADA bans certain substances 365 days a year Instead on a competition day then this issue will continue to happen.

Paolini in an interview with Gazzetta suggests medical issues like addiction....

Great move by the UCI

If they really think "recreational" use is a mitigating circumstance, they should hand out the minimum sentence, not give them a free-out-jail card. The use has happened, they did have two positives; you might argue that the maximum sentence is not warranted due to one of the positives being "recreational", but I don't see how not sentencing gives the UCI any credibility.

They can hardly ban the next team now, unless they have less influence and pay less, of course.

The only guy who stopped Katusha finishing as number one team in WT rankings last year was the old but forever young acquaintance of the clinic, Alejandro Valverde. Now surely Makarov has nothing to do with this and neither his business pal Brian, just a clean strong team with just a few small rotten apples. Nothing to worry about.

The UCI has today announced that they are upping their use of recycling and the Unions headquarters in Switzerland.

Their Chief Recycling Officer said "it really is amazing the amount of shredding that we generate in our offices year on year and it has gone up significantly since our old boss departed". "Add to that the sheer amount of large brown envelopes we receive on a near daily basis it makes investment in recycling and particularly shredding technology a no brainer for us".

I am not surprised by the non-suspension.

Cocaine is one drug I can easily believe the rider is taking without the team knowing.

but cocaine IS in the list of doping products
so they should have got the minimum 15 days suspension. let´s see what happens if another team has the same problems

by the way, as members of MPCC they should stop themselves if Vorganov B sample is confirmed positive (even though they would say again as UCI said "well, Paolini´s problem is not doping, is recreative...."
:D

So, before the results of this investigation, Kristoff couldn't out accelerate Ivan Basso. After they are cleared, he starts his traditional sprint dominance. Let's just hope the UCI doesn't bother Katusha anymore, so he can show kittel what top speed really is.

Wonder if OGE withdrew from MPCC because they know something (a positive?) is coming up.

Katusha leaves the MPCC because their rules are not the same as the UCI's. Wasn't that the whole point of the MPCC?

The MPCC is just for show. As long as you don't get in trouble with the movement's rules, you can keep it up, but as soon as it actually comes to experiencing the consequences of the whole idea behind the movement, you just quit it.

The MPCC is a joke.

The MPCC is voluntary so, they can't really enforce anything. It is essentially for show, though perhaps there are some connected who are sincere.

That it's voluntary is besides the point. A lot of things are voluntary in life, but that doesn't automatically make them meaningless. The MPCC is a meaningless movement that teams join for pr-reasons. History has shown us that as soon as teams get in contact with what the MPCC actually stands for, namely more stringent regulations, they just quit as PR is only great when it's not inconvenient.

Absolutely. It is certainly inconvenient in this case as they say, "A suspension of Team Katusha during a WorldTour race based on the MPCC Rules would violate the UCI Regulations of mandatory participation and the Disciplinary Commission would then be obliged to sanction the Team."

In other words there would be a double sanction arising from the pair of anti-doping violations - the MPCC suspension and the UCI sanction on the team for not turning up.

It just goes to show the MPCC Rules fail to achieve what they claimed they would.

Oh yes, sincere about the veneer it was designed to cover for keeping 'doping' under 'control'....MPCC was set up to try and get teams to agree to no 'arms' race and keep doping 'respectable' so fans can 'believe' and sponsors wont run away in droves....

It failed.

My prediction is that Kristoff and hes train will leave Katusha after this season.

He can´t just leave. His contract goes past 2017. But Thor Hushovd might have a better chance of signing him if he can find sponsors for a Norwegian team. Kristoff does cost a lot though.

He was interviewed by Norwegian TV today. Both he and his coach disagreed with Katyusha´s decision of leaving MPCC. Said it would´ve been better if they´d been suspended.
