You mean like Rui Costa also beat Cancellara last year (by much more) on a similiarly hilly time trial and where Mathias Frank came 4 seconds behind him and Lawson Craddock inside the 20'' mark?

He must have been 19 at the time, Slovenia's answer to Rob Hayles

Either he has a high natural HCT or he was doping young

What are you all saying about G. He can win every race ever you know. Because he is that good at gaining and losing weight

with SILENCE I think Skytears was meaning that if Thomas today did the same, we would have added 8 pages to the Sky thread, and nobody would have gone through last year results, the parcours and the time gaps of other riders

we would have just read: Thomas not normal, Thomas wins with marginal gains and so on, Sky are soo bad, etc.

for me thomas or spilak is no different, as a Sky fan I prefer Thomas, but the juice they are on is the same.

as a Sky fan, I would never cry SPILAK RIDICOLOUS, because I'd get hammered on here. I would be an hypocrite.

Are you generalizing that everyone who question Thomas' Rettenbachferner performance would have cried crazy had Thomas bettered Spilak in the GC because of this TT? Because I'm not so sure that would've been the case, many believe Thomas can TT as about as well as Spilak. Not everyone who is not Sky fan is a rabid hater, you must even be aware that many cheered about how strong Thomas was in spring. I know it in itself cry 'it's ok that you dope as long as we don't feel cheated/we chose to believe you', but Sky are not the victims, although some of its fans act like ones.

Spilak (who has a very decent record in mid length TT's) beats a guy who's missed half the season so far (and has been sacrificing his TT for classics results for several years now) in his first TT back and you're complaining?

Get real. Spilak won Romandie when Froome was still hanging on to motorbikes.

Game, set and match. Well played :)

I'm guessing SkyTears is going for funny with his post(s)? Unless he see's no problem with Thomas going from Northern Classics type rider to "Mountain Goat" in 6 weeks.

no, I said people would have cried crazy, if Thomas, instead of Spilak, had beaten Fabian's time in the TT.
instead, no Sky rider beat Fabian, so nothing to see here, on to the next race.
I repeat again, for me Spilak or Thomas is the same. we know they are both powered by some good peds.

It's just the feedback from the forum/twitter that is different

Nobody would have said much at all if Thomas beat Cancellara in the TT. Middle distance TT's have been Thomas' strength for years - from a former pursuiter I'd expect no less.

It's his climbing that's got everyone scratching their heads.

sometimes I forget the clinic is not antidoping

what's the point? both Spilak and Froome are doped.
does the fact that Spilak won Romandie in 2010 makes him a more likeable/ better doper?

my point was how people would react if Thomas bettered Cancellara's time.

we would've seen more outrage than when Spilak bettered it

people would just complain and nobody would fine explainations like "beats a guy who's missed half the season so far (and has been sacrificing his TT for classics results for several years now) in his first TT back"

Not entirely, but I know I'm against it.

I was just offering an explanation for why there isn't outrage regarding Spilak's TT and overall result. He has been very strong in the two week-long Swiss WT races for at least 5 or 6 years now. Even though this is a suspiciously well timed peak every season, we're used to it. Spilak isn't fooling anyone but we know it's coming. When he started doing this in 2009, it certainly drew attention at the time.

Now Thomas keeping up with the best guys on climbs like Rettenbachferner, 6 weeks after a solid northern classics season (which was allegedly the no.1 focus for his entire year!) is totally new for him, and is going to draw justified scrutiny yeah? Not because it's any more or less ridiculous, but because it's something we haven't expected and have no precedence for.

Capiche?

This.

Spilak is an enigma, but he's at least been around for awhile with good results...
