jimmy just a tip, if you are going to scout the forums looking for anything remotely offensive so you can get on your high horse, then you're going to look like a bit of a tool when you then proceed to make these personal attacks yourself.

Katusha and Zakarin very disappointing today but Astana was out from this world. I guess they got their results in the first part of the season to make Makarov continue the team and now they suck?

time to go in Astana threads now.

Trofimov riding with the best climbers there in the Giro, what did he eat: pineapple, oranges, steak?

Not before the stage I hope. Are indigestion tablets on the WADA list?

He is going faster than the entire peloton combined.

This experiment of a rider will be the first to win all the Grand Tours in a row.

Stein Orn with some thoughts. Slightly paraphrasing, here is what he said:

-false positive error probability too high right now for retrospective testing. riders can't take any risks there. what if the scientists screw it up?
-if the false positive error was 0%, though, he'd be in favour
-alex has nothing to hide and is cleans.
-he reads the clinic ("international forums") and is aware that Alex winning big and Stein being a doc is not a good look
-alex is proof you can win big and be clean.

The box on the doping test form is for allowing for the test to be used "anonymously for research purposes into developing new methods of drug detection." It is not a way to say yes or no to retrospective testing for doping cases. Stein Ørn seems confused about this. And Stokes doesn't address it. The statute of limitation for doping cases is now 10 years. Any sample (which has been properly stored) from Kristoff or any other athlete can be retested within ten years, wether that box on the form has been ticked or not. The only thing to gain by not ticking the box is to slow down research and development of new methods of drug dectection. The samples, new or stored, are analysed by WADA accredited labs, at least if they are to be used in doping cases. The labs have certain standards to meet. I'm sure they can be found on the WADA website, or by contacting UCI, ADN or the Oslo lab, If Ørn needs more information about retesting he can have a chat with compatriot Anders Besseberg, the president of the International Biathlon Union. Besseberg has been very proud to talk about the retesting IBU did this winter, which caught several Russians and a Ukrainian. IOC just disqualified a Ukrainian swimmer from the 2012 Olympics, after retesting two and a half year old samples, and they have announced they are retesting samples from the 2008 Olympic games, just like they retested samples from the Athens games in 2012. It is possible, ticked box or not.

No må du ta deg saman Stein.

I think there is a little confusion going on here. He is not talking about false positives. He is talking about lab screw ups. False positive or false negative is an issue with the test itself. It's not about some lab tech using a contaminated needle, misplacing confidential information or something, which is what Ørn seems to be talking about.

FYI doping tests are designed to be much likelier to produce a false negative than false positive. Meaning it's better the test says someone is clean when he is dirty than vice versa. This is part of what allows doping cases to have a laxer standard of conviction than a court of law.

Now from my understanding of what Ørn is talking about is concern for lax routines/incompetence at labs and research institutions. It means he doesn't trust all the differing institutions involved to keep their standard of sample handling and research methods.

From what I gather he is being very diplomatic, but does state clearly that Kristoff always crosses the box when in Norway. He is doing a Norwegian Faux paux related to the law of Jante. He is saying that some countries labs/research institutions are better than others. More specifically the Norwegian labs/institutions are better than unnamed foreign ones.

He works in a related part of the business so I would think he has heard some stories about mistakes in research/sample handling etc, that has him concerned.

Now granted it seems a bit unclear from the article when he is talking about research and when he is talking about the UCI storing samples for retesting. I imagine this is a combination of the Journalist and Ørn talking past each other a bit or that Stokes didn't think it was that important to highlight when what is talked about.

I think there is a bit of concern about the systems for long term handling and storage of samples for retesting. Not just by Ørn but throughout the larger cycling family.
