The scenario that goes along the lines of Vino paying Uran is complete bs... I mean really? How much could Vino have offered? 100 grand? 200? 1mill?
Winning the Olympics would have rocketed Uran into stardom. His yearly paycheck would have increased considerably (undoubtedly more than than the Vino's bribe - if we're to keep it under reasonable terms) plus... HE WOULD HAVE WON THE FRIGGIN' OLYMPICS!

rant over :D

You think this was a fair win? I don't think so, it was too obvious

Uran is a tiny climber!! How would he stand a chance against Vino on a flat sprint? No chance!

This thread is pathetic.

I think Uran first looked back for Vino then was looking further back down the road to see where the group was. Yes it was stupid 300m from the line but to accuse the guy of taking a dive. Sheesh.

In case you didn't know, Vino's done it before. Therefore, fair accusation to make in light of the strange finish.

But lets say for the sake of argument that Vino is selling that does not mean that Uran is buying. So it seems a bit unfair on Uran that he is being judged on what Vino might have done in the past.

Out of interest, does Uran speak good english? I'm pretty sure that i've read somewhere during the giro that haneao and uran don't speak english so how could vino and uran even have discussed a bribe!!

Uran has a good enough kick but he really mucked up today.

Vino speaks all languages. Didn't you know? :D

WHE IS A LEGEND, A TRUE MAN OF HONOR AND THE GREATEST CHAMPION.

Chuckles...

Vino is great, no doubt about it. But he's got the same kind of honor system as a russian mobster.

The writing was on the wall. I was confident that Vino was going to win. Colombians have never been known for their great sprinting. As for Vino, his constant refusals to discuss the past are eloquent but I have nothing against his current win. He gets tested. Nothing found, move on. He is also an expert at reading a race and knowing when to react.
I've seen several "Colombians can't sprint" in this thread. This is BS. Not all Colombians are the tiny escarabajo climber type, there's very fast Colombians like Duque or Forero, and Urán has a pretty decent kick himself. Stop the stereotyping.

+1

To me Uran Uran has similar looking legs to Cunego, who has a very good kick (one of the best examples is worlds 08).

What an idiotic question, this doesn't even warrant a response.

The really question is : did he get paid more than Kolobnev.
No matter what, without Vino Uran wouldn't have gotten any medal at all.
In a normal race there is there is only ONE winner, but at the Olympics there are 3 people on the podium.
If I had been in Vino's place I would have done the same. So, it's bad sport, but it's understandable.

I think Uran didn't sell it.
If he did, he wouldn't have to lose it by looking back and letting Vino go.
He could just lose (or "lose") the sprint.
That's how everybody would do it.

That makes me think it was fair win for Vino.

Keep your pants on, I said GREAT sprinting. Vino is no slouch at the end of a hard race as he has shown plenty of times before. I know there are some decent Colombian sprinters out there. Some. I would put Vino up against Uran any day of the week.

I only quoted you because you had made the most recent post in that vein, but you weren't the only. Urán has a decent sprint. I shall remain pantless.

Out of interest, Uran spent this June in Vancouver studying English and riding his bike around town.

I'm sure Vino can negotiate in any language but there's no way Uran sold out a gold medal!

Ugh. I kinda wish this thread were relegated to the clinic.

Great win by Vino. He's a punchy rider who's been in situations like this before, so--once it was just the two of them--the outcome was pretty clear.

I do hope he comes back for at least one more year to show off his bling.

I don't think it's too likely he sold it, mostly 'cause I can't imagine what someone would have to pay a person to do it, but it was a very unusual sprint with a lot of talking beforehand. The question certainly came to my mind knowing how often these thing happen. But for crying out loud, who would sell olympic gold to get a silver. I dunno. Never will. Vino's emotion on the podium seemed heartfelt, hard to imagine feeling that way if you bought the final placing.
