An Irishman walks into a race thread and gives away classified information about another race that's taking place at the same time.
Do you get neurotic that the other race has been ruined for you or do you congratulate him on being an Irishman?

As I stated in the mod thread:

Even if you don't care about messing things up for others, posting about race A in the thread for race B is off topic.
I had a similar reaction when I read this thread, but this one seems to be about spoilers in the thread for that race. Which I don't think is an issue at all.

What defense there could be for posting a spoiler in a thread A about race B I can't fathom. If you don't care about messing things up for other posters...welp. IMO have a nice vacation. But I'm 100% with you that doing so is also obviously off-topic.

If that is the case I misunderstood. I thought that the debate was about posting, for example, the P-N winner in the T-A thread.

I think most cases of posting about race A in the thread for race B are either:

1. Those situations where people get stunned that the same team gets multiple wins in a day, and makes a post like "Oh, wow! Trek got 10 wins in the same day!" in the thread for the latest-finishing race. Now, I agree that the thread for that particular team would be the correct place to post about such matters, but I can understand if someone might get carried away.
(Also, I suppose if a team managed to get 10 wins in a day, it would probably be during the big National Championship Sunday, so... that wouldn't be a problem.)

2. People getting threads mixed up, and for example does stuff like posting about Milano-San Remo in the Milano-Torino thread.

As for caring about it:
Well, I don't care about reading the result of race A in the thread for race B; either I have already watched race A, or I won't.
I will of course take care not to post about the result of race A in the thread for race B.

I would consider it impossible to post a spoiler about race A in the thread for race A. During the race, the race thread is essentially a running commentary. If there is a lot of on-forum activity during a race I haven't watched live, I sometimes try to follow the discussion while watching: the trick is to check the time stamps before scrolling up enough to read the message.

If I ever wrote anything suggesting that race A comments in thread A was what I was asking people to be wary of, then I apologise for not making myself clear.

And if anyone wants to make such a post, they have two separate spoiler tags they can use. There is simply zero reason to spoil other races on the same day in a race thread, and a lot of reasons/ways not to.

If you want to watch some race replay and don't want any spoilers then protect yourself at all times. Set your device to airplane mode and avoid friends and family knowledgeable of cycling. Last thing you want is to visit a pro road cycling orientated forum and read it. After all on the front page news about the event will be all over it.

Nothing else will work and if you spoil it in the end it's your fault. The world shouldn't be to blame, it's you. On top of that you likely jinxed it too. Hard life.

Yep, good points, I guess I could see where it might happen accidentally. I would hope that would be a one time thing.

Regarding not caring if it happens, that’s fine for you but just because it doesn’t bother you doesn’t mean it’s not bothersome to a whole lotta other folks.

News feed likely to be more hours adrift than I am in watching a race delayed; unless a british rider has won the TdF it will not be making breaking news on mainstream media; immediate family have no interest in cycling other than being polite to me about my obsession, and certainly wouldn't know results; shortcut brings me straight to the forum without looking at CQ main pages.
