Blood experts criticise IAAF claims
http://www.bbc.com/sport/athletics/34953362

... the blood values were so extreme, over such an extended period, that they should have tried to do something, anything. The IAAF were legally timid when they should have been morally strong."

Ashenden continued: "The irony of a disgraced federation casting aspersions is not lost on me. But their deliberately bloated document, no doubt intended to muddy the waters, cannot go unanswered.

Athletics Kenya names 5 sanctions, including two-time world XC champ Emily Chebet.

beeb website report that 43 kenyan athletes have been banned in last 3 years..........

40 of whom failed tests...............does anyone know if russian style sanctions will now

be heading kenya's way............?

Remember that there was no Kenyan anti-doping lab. Laws and funding have only recently been passed, and WADA has requested information regarding its progress:

WADA ‏@wada_ama Nov 18
1/2...WADA has requested Kenya to answers questions relating to its anti-doping program. Await those answers, and if unsatisfactory, then...

WADA ‏@wada_ama Nov 18
2/3...it could me a matter for Compliance Review Committee. WADA is encouraged by media reports that Kenyan cabinet has now approved rules..

Part two of the WADA IC report is likely to be finished in December and released after the holidays in January. Part two focuses on corruption.

Russian-esque sanctions aren't likely. First off, I don't think Athletics Kenya is competent enough to organize systematic doping. They can hardly organize national team training camps, and national and international qualifying competitions without doing something stupid, and those are things far from the shadows.

The organized (not systematic) doping is private, from a number of sources. Money/organized doping not only comes to Kenya from other countries, but also to Kenyans in other countries. No ties to the federation.

Bribery and corruption was revealed by the ARD documentary, and will be shared in the IC report, but it would have to be something special to implicate the federation, instead of individual figure heads.

Further, they didn't/don't have a WADA lab from which to lose accreditation.

Very interesting and brings my confusion to a head. An athlete from a country with a national anti-doping authority has to have the clearance of that authority to compete, correct? The national ADA can suspend an athlete. So what happens for countries like Kenya without a national ADA, at what level is oversight applied? Only at the level of in-competition test results?

Russians, Kenyans, Italians, Spanish but no UK or Aussie's. Especially Paula Radcliffe, no dopings going on there.

C''mon, it's been well established. The UK has an extensive anti-doping program in place, ensuring that ALL of its sports are clean. The BBC said so. So did Lord Coe. So did Dame Paula Radcliffe (is she a Dame yet?).

Daniele Meucci is one of Renato Canova's athletes.

And he posted this
The next generation of top Italian champion was completely clean :

Genny Di Napoli, Andrea Benvenuti, Beppe D'Urso, Elisabetta Perrone, Maria Guida, Ornella Ferrara, Maura Viceconte, Vincenzo Modica, Danilo Goffi, Giacomo Leone, Christian Leuprecht, Francesco Bennici and, of course, Stefano Baldini and now Daniele Meucci, Andrea Lalli and Valeria Straneo.

Each of those "...and now..."s are on the list.

EDIT: How perfect would it have been if he said new generation instead of next

not yet.

But Hog, whats your opinion on Radcliffe, you reckon that may be her Armstrong moment of hubris, if she decides to take the knighthood/damehood, it could bring the skeletons to the surface, someone might get the knife out, brutus...

Professional sport really is a joke

UK athletics chief exec Ed Warner:

"I'm talking to Seb (Coe) about the 2017 Worlds being a new dawn, the Redemption Games for athletics"

You couldn't make this up - sounds an awful lot like the "Tour of Renewal"... Plus ça change.

I loathe Coe in equal measure with the degree of disdain I had for Armstrong - I hope the stuck-up, self-righteous **** gets a similar outcome.

With idiots like these in charge of sport (UKAD / IAAF), we can be certain what's coming in the approaching years. Sports administration is the gift that keeps on giving from a tragic comedic perspective.

I'd love it if a sport - any sport - actually decided that they desired to see the best "real" athlete win, regardless of the fact that records would no longer be broken and that half (?? insert other higher number here...) of their existing competitors would no longer be able to compete.

Do you remember Nick Davies was the guy with the camera taking snaps of fellow Monaco res Paula and posting them up on the IAAF website and the guy who said the data Seppelt had should not be seen but belonged in the IAAF safe -

Dear Papa,

Following our discussion earlier I have already had some thoughts and believe that we need to do the following, in the strict confidence and control within a small circle of senior IAAF staff only. This mut be very secret.

(...)

4. Finally, as soon as possible, and ‘unofficially’ PR campaign to ensure that we avoid international media scandals related to the Moscow Championships especially in the British press, where the worst of the articles is coming from. This will require specialist PR skills (working only with me directly) from London, but I believe that if we consider using CSM we can also benefit from Seb’s political influence in the UK. It is in his personal interest to ensure that the Moscow World Champs is a success and that people do not think that the media of his own country are trying to destroy it. We can work extremely hard in stopping any planed ‘attack’ on Russia from the British press press in the coming weeks.

5. Finally, I need to be able to sit down with the Anti-doping department and understand exactly what Russian ‘skeleton’ we have still in the cupboard regarding doping. I think that the time to have unveiled the various athletes was a long time ago and that now we need to be smart. These athletes, of course, should NOT be part of any Russian team for these World Championships and Valentin should be pressurised to make sur this is the case. If the guilty ones are not competing then we might as well wait until the event is over to announce them. Or we announce one or two BUT AT THE SAME TIME as athletes from other countries. Also we can prepare a special dossier on IAAF testing which will show that one of the reasons why these Russian athletes come up positive is that they get tested a lot !!! In the same way, we can make the point that the WADA laboratory is the responsibility of WADA not IAAF and that if WADA decides there really is a problem, we have a plan B to do the tests in Lausanne instead (Gabriel confirmed this to me yesterday).

Papa, as soon as I have an idea of the price of this unofficial PR campaign I will let you know, but I will do everything in my power to protect the IAAF and the President.

All the best Nick »

There is an unusually critical article in the Times sports section today about Nike. I cannot post the link as I am not currently paying for their paywall, but if you can find a copy of the paper, it makes interesting reading. One wonders if the British press is pulling itself out of its post-leveson cowedness & rediscovering its balls

This and the opening section advising that it had to be "very secret" and then the "special dossier"

and who is "Gabriel" , that was not written in the festive season so is this a person who works at the lab and can become "friendly" ?
