Doping.

If he requires cortisone he clearly needs to rest and get his knee fixed.

Well if its prescribed by a doctor it is probably legit under Cricket's rules.

But that's not to say that the rules shouldn't change!

KP has a cortisone injection on his knee, doping or not?

Not doping. Stupid and arguably unethical - but doping must mean ILLEGAL (prohibited in the sport, not cocaine!) drugs, or it means nothing. Can't call someone out for publicly using a substance he's entitled to use.

Clearly the rule should change, but...

One of the first things you learn as a grown-up - what IS and what SHOULD BE, not necessarily the same thing.

Cricket is not an olympic sport, as far as I know - not since many many years ago when the French!! got the silver. I suspect the ICC were only recently recognised by IOC at all.

Doesn't seem anything new to me.

Seems that athletes from all sports need help to keep from cramming their foot in their mouth. From the article:

"I understand why people pay more attention to Jamaica," said Carter, who won an individual bronze medal in the 100m in Moscow in August to add to his sprint relay gold from the London Olympics.

"It was the same when the US dominated. People said they were on drugs and should be tested. That's a part of the sport and we have to accept that. It's going to hurt fans and athletes because no-one wants to be associated with what's going on."

And they were tested, and busted. Probably not the best analogy to use to claim you're clean...

Lol, well picked out.

TUE certainly would be available. (and I doubt the authorities would refuse).

One other minor point. In a cortisone shot into the knee is it injected into the muscle, or is it into the synovial cavity ?

The latter would not be oral, IV, IM or rectal. (so technically could be outside the rules as written)

Cortisone isn't prohibited at all out of competition.

Essentially what some of you are getting worked up about it someone using a drug for the purpose it's designed for at a time when he's allowed to.

Yes, if it is a joint problem it is injected into the joint capsule.

Mike Tyson admits to being high on drugs during major fights, and using a fake penis to avoid detection.
Tyson's only visible means of support is the people who pay him to say things that they write down or record so that they can charge other people to read or listen to them. If what he says isn't sensational, no one will pay to listen. He'd say he an Evander Holyfield were bumping uglies in the lockerroom before the fight if he thought it would pay for his children's Christmas presents.

Which is not to say I don't believe he never fought stoned. It's just that he's a desperate man with lots of debts, no education and no marketable skills. If I could get paid what he does for his one-man shows, I'm certain could think up some very entertaining tales. Emphasis on the "tales."

“When I ran 47.60, I knew that it was a very good time but I didn’t think it would last as the World record as long as it has. When I watched the race back, every aspect of the race proved to be great – I had a terrific first 200m and a good 300m. So I knew it would be difficult to beat that time but I didn’t imagine it would stay as long as 27 years.

“When Marie-Jose Perec was coached by my husband, she realised that the training load required to run that fast was very difficult. If you fulfil such training, then maybe it will be possible to break the world record, but it is extremely difficult"

ok.......... and kudos IAAF for the memories
