Did any other Aussies in here see John Coates and the AOC's statement giving the AIS the green light for Rio? Apparently getting back into the top 5 of the medal tally at Rio is difficult but not out of the question...

No? Was it in print / web media or on the TV?

I think that any sport where being the best nets you more money is going to have some degree of doping in there. I mean, young bodybuilders who can make 500 dollars for being first on stage will dope up their body to look a little better, there is no denying that most professionals use something or the other.

Rugby players (looking at the UKAD website) need some serious lessons in IQ improvement. Or better handlers.

I suspect that they are mostly lower league players doing it themselves, Colclough is the only one whose case I remember, mainly because he has the same name as a player from my childhood, so I checked out if he was a relation, he wasn't.

The pros in the top leagues will be on a pretty tight leash with the coaches/doctors telling them what to do when.

Don't forget this is the sport of Bloodgate where a doc cut open the mouth of a player to cover cheating.

Not directly doping, but this is going to set the stage for American Collegiate sports doping controversy maybe a decade from now after some kid(s) finally shocks the American public with the NCAA enabling doping. There is so much money at that level, it will be an amazing/terrible story when it finally happens.

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/08/0...its-mission.html?smid=tw-share&_r=1&referrer=

The money in collegiate sport (pro-am level for popular American sport) is huge. The NCAA controls a for-profit company that hides some of it. (BCS)

The article does a great job summarizing things.

Having grown up as an athlete through the NCAA, I hope for the best, but know it will move to the worst. Too many people with too many hands on a pot that is too big. Listening to the discussion is even worse. There are so many perspectives that need acknowledging for a wholesome solution, which are going ignored.

Retired UFC fighter Mark Bocek on the pervasiveness of PEDs in pro MMA:

"I think it’s worse than people realize. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the way things are going, you kind of deserve to lose if you’re not on PEDs nowadays. I used to think of it as cheating, but you can’t call it cheating when everyone is doing it. You go in there and lose to someone on PEDs, it’s like, what did you expect? Did you think you were going to knock out some guy on PEDs in the highest MMA league in the world? People get away with cheating in the Olympics, which has much stricter testing than in the UFC, so you can imagine what people get away with in the UFC.

“I can’t put numbers on it. I’ve trained at the top five MMA camps on the planet, but I’d never mention any names. There are genetic freaks out there. There are always exceptions. But look at Tour de France. If you want a clean guy, let’s go down to No. 28. There are fighters that don’t use, but the way the sport’s highly evolved now, the clean guys are getting farther and fewer between.”

I agree, any golfer who doesn't look like Monty must be doping.

Or Jack, or Arnie, or Phil, or Bobby,...

Only lately have golfers started to look like Tiger/Rory ("V" shaped). Tiger received treatments from the shady doctor Galea.

Average 300+ yards off the tee. Check.

****-weak testing in golf. Check.

I would put the odds at 80%.

Jason Day even more so.

Anyone who is reasonably fit has a V shape torso. If you are a jock and stay in shape you have a V shaped torso. I am 66. I run and bike regularly and I have a V shape torso. Most of my hiking pals have V shaped torsos. I can still occasionally hit a drive 300 yards. Some people naturally have V shaped torsos. Give it a break. You have succumbed to the standard cynical Clinic mantra that as soon as you do something great in sport, you must be on dope.

Your theory sounds like phrenology run amok. Your speculation is just that - unsubstantiated, baseless, rumour mongering and gossipy best found in a tabloid. Specious. I would put the odds at 0%.

Yep. There is 0% chance any athlete is doping.

There is no incentive. Elite level athletes have superior motives, and would never cheat for glory or money. The testing is impossible to beat. Anybody who is not a couch potato could get into the same shape as an elite world class athletes.

We skeptics have to "prove it in a court of law", or it didn't happen. OJ Simpson didn't slaughter two innocent human beings, because he was found "not guilty". Putin isn't responsible for shooting down that plane, because it hasn't been "proven" yet. FloJo/Bonds/Clemens never doped, because they were never "proven" to dope.

Me, I would rather live in the real world. Not a phoney "legalistic" world.

IF YOU THINK THE CLINIC IS FULL OF DELUDED CYNICS, WHY WOULD YOU COME HERE AND ARGUE WITH US?

Nothing to see here. It is just that he is wearing a sleeveless shirt in the "after" picture. Anybody can get into that shape, if they got off their couch.

No athlete would ever cheat. It's not in their DNA. Not to mention, the testing is impossible to beat, and they have no incentive to cheat.

100% of athletes who haven't been proven as dopers, are in fact, clean.

You are just being a specious cynic. :D:D:D

You can't say anything from those pictures. There are some cases where you from pictures can conclude someone is doping (anabolic steroids) but in many cases you can't.

That doesn't mean I think he is natural (but it has nothing to do with those pictures), it's not unlikely that a top football player who plays for a spanish club is doping.

Dutch tv showed those pictures on tv, asked a question about his training. He said he didn't even lift any weight this summer.

Why would you say that? I agree that it's hard to tell just from a few pictures, but this just seems silly.
