Pretty simple, back in 2014-2016, reports were made in the Norwegian media about systematic use of asthma medicine on non asthmatic skiers starting in the late 80’s. Johaug was popped, Sundby was popped, and muscle Marit wrote in her book about how FIS called the doctor in April 2017 about discrepancy in one of her samples from the 30km at the Lahti Word Championships. She was also using symbicort for the longest times, and I am quite sure she was using other ‘methods’ and ‘substances.’ Kowalczyk had every right to be critical back in 2010-2012.
I think this long tirade with the Norwegian skier barely mentioned is a good prima facie for my thesis:

"F-k the doping Norwegians, if there is even a flimsiest case against one of them, let's nail that guy / gal!"

Again, totally possible that they have a good doping program and many / most of their XC-skiers are tainted.

“Flimsiest.” LOL. Good joke.

If you treat the case of this Norwegian skier equivalent to Max Hauke with the needle in his vein, You keep proving my point.

I fully agree with Kingjr: "But there isn't even a 'case'."

There is no there there.

Victoria Carl has tested positive for Clenbuterol, not because of a steak but supposedly because of the Bundeswehr delivering the wrong cough medicine at the World Military Games

Don't know about German army doctors but here in the States military medical staff doesn't necessarily always have the best of reputations. (If you're familiar with Madigan Army hospital in the Tacoma area that one had a very sketchy reputation [at least in the 80s and 90s], so much so it became a grim joke. Like, if you want the wrong leg amputated, or need no amputation at all but will still get it, go to Madigan!)

I'm not saying Carl is innocent by any means, but if German military doctors are anything like the ones at Madigan I can understand how a mistake can happen.

I mean, if the doctor did his job somewhat properly there should be a medical record showing that he actually prescribed her cough medicine that contains Clen.

Official statement here

E:

If I get it correctly, Carl was prescribed one cough syrup product that does not contain clen. She declared this. But she was administered another product, which does contain clen. So, maybe there will be no prescription of the second product with clen, only mis-administration by the attending?

As an aside, round my way docs nowadays say cough syrups are useless, at least for garden variety respiratory tract stuff, and advice to take couple spoonfuls of honey instead. Carl should have stuck to that too.

Ouch, the pharmacy and medical staff sound like they trained at Madigan. :(

I think it's ultimately still the athlete's responsibility to inquire what drugs they are being given and whether they contain any prohibited substances (if they're able, if they're too sick to ask they shouldn't even be competing), why trust a doctor I'm assuming Carl wasn't even familiar with?

Wait a minute, I thought athletes are responsible for what goes into their bodies. Or is this ‘different?’

I don't think it's different, while the army medical staff sound incompetent Carl still bears responsibility as to what goes into her body. It's not like she was on her death bed and didn't get a chance to ask...

What an absolute joke. Claims foot injury hampers training, skis only 7 of 19 WC races, then shows up and beats Ebba by 46 seconds IN A 10 KILOMETER RACE. Anyone who swallows this, I've got some swampland in Florida to sell you, as they say in the states. If Diggins had done the same and showed up in this form the forum would be undergoing a thermonuclear meltdown.

Dont know if it changes anything, but she's done 9. (2 in Ruka, 2 in Trondheim and 5 in the Tour). Ebba has only done one more race in the WC, as she did Alpe Cermis when Frida jumped off.
Thanks, I may have to double check then, I was pretty sure it was 7. In any event, as you allude to I don't think it changes anything. Few if anyone on the main forum would accept this with any credulity if it was Diggins; if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck imho.

Honestly, if this form holds the 50k is going to be an embarrassment if she goes full gas. Hope someone in her camp is smart enough to tell her to at least make it look good.

All my .02 of course but come on.

It should be noted, perhaps, that there are certain stylistic differences between Karlsson and Diggins.

Diggins crashed at the 20k race and got injured. Instead of healing, she raced the sprint..Could've had better prep for today, but Frida would've won anyway.

Silver was for sure within her grasp, but no one else was winning gold, definitely.

Karlsson in this form would have won in any ski conditions. Diggins was aided by the fact that they salted the course just before it was opened for testing and training this morning. Had the conditions been the same as they were for the skiathlon, she wouldn't have won a medal. I also think that Slind was aided by the faster conditions as well. Weng, not so much.
