It's quite disturbing because it's a really lovely area to cycle, and the amount of effort gone into making it a cycle friendly location (for Australia) is excellent.

The bar has been reset. This hits close to home as I know this girl. She's a great kid (for the record, she's going to be ok) and I regularly rode on the same roads when I lived in Perth.

At the scene, Michele Scarponi's tragic accident.
These are the pics of the scene of Michele Scarponi's tragic accident, along with the van that hit him. I wasn't sure it would be appropriate to start a new thread on something so tragic, so I put this post in here.
Honestly, I have no idea how the van driver did not see Michele, besides maybe playing with the radio or worse, texting while driving or something to that extent. I'm sure we'll hear the final verdict when it's available but I thought I'd post these for everyone to get a better idea of what happened to a beloved father, husband, friend, and pro cyclist while out for a ride one day on his bike.

So very shocking and now so very sad.
Michele was such a likeable professional and obviously a real family man. Really feel for his two young boys right now.
The scene seems perfect for visibility, except for maybe that hedge(?)

It was a wise discretion not to show the photos that are also on that site of Anna with the body: was she riding with him, or was it just that close that she got there so early?

Personally I did not know Michele Scarponi, but I feel deep sorrow for his loss and I hope that his wife and children know that there's people around the world that feel the same way.
I don't know if Anna was riding with him, I would hope that wasn't the case as having this tragedy ingrained in her last memory of her husband is not something I would wish on anyone, on the other hand I hope that Michele got to say goodbye to her before he left... Either way, it's very tragic and I feel terrible for the whole family. :sad:
To be honest, I didn't know if I should have posted any of these photo's, but in the end I think people want to know what happened to Michele. As for the other photo's, I don't believe showing his body laying on the ground adds to the narrative that I wanted to present, nor did I think it was appropriate.Armchair cyclist said:

This fatality hits home even harder about the dangers of the sport.No one would be more conscious or reactive about the dangers on the road than a professional cyclist but it's still not enough to stop this happening.

Terrible incident in Spain, near Oliva yesterday when a drunk and drugged woman drove into a group of cyclists, killing two of them and seriously injuring three others.Although of course nothing will bring back those who have died a let's hope they lock her up and throw away the keys as an example to others.
