Has his top speed dropped off or has the bar just been raised by the new generation? There are more riders who are specialising exclusively on sprinting and a much higher level of competition than when Cav was fighting against much more rounded riders like Freire, Hushovd and Boonen for wins.

Yes, he was used to compete angainst more well rounded rinders that weren't only pure sprinters.

The stage needs to be ridden hard and they need to try and drop Cav on those climbs 40k's from the finish. He surely won't lose more than a few seconds in those final 250 metres. Plus he will have a chance to get 10 seconds back on Saturday.

Yeah. I think people are overestimating tomorrow's stage. The hard part of the final is even less than 250 metres, maybe 150 metres. It is not a real stage for puncheurs. A lot of sprinters should be able to handle it.

Yes, it's short, but also really steep. Not sure what to make of it. Just: go Valgren!

Etixx trying to split the peloton in the wind but failed. Bunch quite nervous.

Can you please keep the updates coming through? Im at work. Thanks in advance.

Velgren is an interesting pick for today's stage. He should be able to do very well on this kind of finish. Battaglin is a good pick as well as the stage should suit him. However, I'm not sure about his form? He was unspectacular in San Luis to say the least, but he has been testing himself being in the break on stage 1 here.

Quick-Step very organized. They just need two seconds pr. km.

12.5 km from the finish there is a 500-600 m legbreaker. They have to make it back clearly before that.
