Tom Dumuolin is now a climber

Dumoulin just graduated to climber. One of the most incredible/ridicolous/doped transformations ever.

Well, that didn't take long.

His victory today is quite surprising to me but not at all out of the question.

He was climbing really well in the tour de suisse, when he was competing against some really good riders.

Not completing the tour means he's fresh too.

I think, and have thought that he was going to be a GC guy for the grand tours, but not this fast.

Is he doping? Probably, just like the rest of the riders in the peloton.

Laughable.

You know what else is laughable? A heavy TT specialist dropping Purito and a doped alien on double figure gradients[/quote]

Nevermind him, he's Dutch.

I have met Tom a couple of time myself. He's around 6'0 and 160 lbs.

To be fair, it might just be that everyone else is stupidly second hand, his time on Rettenbachferner earlier in the season was better than the likes of Ulle and Bottle, and he is much fresher than everyone else. Not that I'm convinced at all though

This is the nonsense I really start to dislike. That's probably the 3rd time the last 3 weeks. If I would not list that I am from Holland, I wouldnt hear this. Its lame and weak.

Who knows Dumoulin is on the juice. That's not exactly my problem. The problem I have is what I already said.

Some of you remind me of Statler and Waldorf from the Muppet Show. Cant enjoy a good performance. Everybody sucks and is doped.

You misunderstand me, I just mean that you are defending your fellow countryman, when his performance is truly extraordinary and raises suspicions.

I can see how a somewhat heavier time trialist can lose weight and handle long climbs like in TDS (he was 1'37 after Pinot) with regularity, ride defensively and be within two-three minutes of the best. Here the same guy dominated against Rodriguez, Chaves and Mur de Huy-style Froome in a super intense effort.

The Vuelta creates many great wonders of cycling. From Gonzalez, Perez, Nozal, Cobo, Froome and Horner, now we have Dumoulin
Well that has always been the case, since decades.
The Vuelta always have suprising riders in the top 20.

I remember Bartoli finishing top 10. Raimund Dietzen only appeared to be good in the Vuelta. Johnny Hoogerland finished 15th while being a marginal climber. I can go on and on.

That's the Vuelta, always have, always will be.

I could just about believe a steady sustained output of power from him on a climb, but this was like a 'Spanish flea' type ride, plain ridiculous.

My point is I just don't think someone with Dumoulin's physique can win on a climb like that against guys like that without being juiced up. Does that make it any less entertaining? Of course not - that stage was simply epic, and it's still probably a somewhat level playing field. Just depends on who is willing to risk their health the most and take the most illegal PEDs

It is fairly ridiculous though. How many days was he in the breakaway? Three was it? And all this now on the uphills, sprinting away from people, repeated attacks. We've wound back the clock a few years with this guy.
