Apparently it's not just good for your hair, Tom probably just drinks 2 bottles of Alpecine shampoo instead of coffee before every stage, nothing to see her...
If an evil Russian like Chernetckii, who always was good on a TT-bike (beat Tom in the 2012 U-23 WC ITT) and a good climber (2nd in the Giro della Valle d'Aosta and 4th in the Tour de l'Avenir in 2012, 4th in the 2013 Tour of Austria, winner of the 2013 Tour des Fjords and 7th in the 2013 Vuelta a Burgos) would do the same, we would get a different reaction...
It's been a pretty awesome debut year as a sponsor for them. Two monuments, a high profile TdF mountain win and now an unexpected GC rider getting countless hours of coverage. Plus those ridiculous adverts.

Poor old Shimano. They gave all of this up and continued instead to sponsor a car which is most famous for crashing into riders.

yea, its telekom 2.0. they have all riders you need: degenkolb, the allrounder. now dumoulin, former tt specialist gone indurain. even gechke, former fail in each break he was now wins mountainous tdf stages - after a very tough giro! Lols

Indeed, maybe one better than Telekom though; lets not forget they still also have by far the fastest sprinter in the world (providing he can regain his form next season).

Just once, I would like to read about a GT performer doing "what's expected", and not having a "surprising" first two weeks.

Anyone who leans on Wiggins as a foundation for performance justification just nailed his doping coffin shut as far as I am concerned.

http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/tom-dumoulin-bradley-wiggins-showed-me-whats-possible-190234?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social

Dumoulin has just made the statement he is doping. "Wiggins showed him......." = doping. End of.

Now we just need Canc and Tony Martin to get in on the act.......

Like a boss. True detective you are :)

dank u voor het compliment

Hope you can get to Madrid to cheer your hero..... :)

Re: Re:

I don't think it's fair to say this Vuelta has been 'easy' for riders.

Most grand tours exist of 15 stages where as a GC rider you don't do anything. Maybe a kick up the finish for a few seconds here and there but nothing major. Yet, you'll feel the distance in your leg after three weeks.

Then there are the hard fought stages of which you have a handful. The TT is obviously a tough day but we've seen three or so really hard stages here where they have been required to go all out for about an hour. Number 10 in the GC is about 7 minutes back. These minutes have been accumulated in three of four stages, the rest has been about seconds.

That doesn't mean the tour is easy, it's the typical GC fight. Conserve energy and then strike hard when it matters.

This year's Giro was really hard with more tough fought stages. Most tours, however, have much less. That doesn't make them easy so reading that arguments gets pretty annoying.

he's going to win the vuelta isn't he? Closing down attacks by Aru like it ain't no thing.

Yep, and the next 5 or so years will be dominated by 70kg/185cm+ ex TT/Track specialists.

I wonder who is next? Rohan Dennis from BMC? I guess Geraint Thomas has already started his transformation as well.

Martin and Cancellara probably kicking themselves they weren't a few years younger right now.

Re:

This is probably more amazing than the rest of the Vuelta. At least he lost *some* time uphill thus far. I just saw Aru drop everyone except him.

And he was definitely not TT-ing up this hill, this was stop and GO, lightweight climber's style.

It reads online like the Giro 2009 with DiLuca and Menchov. It would be nice to think someone just stepped up their game but this never a lapse seems unreal.

At first I thought that Tom D might potentially win a one week race in a couple of years TdS 2015 style, or get a top 5-10 in a GT with a lot of ITT kilometres, but this thing he is doing now is just too much ....
He should have grudually started winning more races in 2015-2018 and podium/win Vuelta 2018, then it would be more believable

I hope he doesn't get busted tho... I don't want to hear all these doping related comments when I tell people I like cycling

And, of course, this phenomenon now busts the idea that you need a "GC Team" around you to have a crack at the GC. Just send your sprint team, and let the time trialler do the business.

And the pictures of TD leading the remains of his team in the latter sections of the race, with them desperately trying to hang onto his jersey tail. "Err ... Tom? That's not quite how it's supposed to work."

I remember early on, commentators were saying "he's using his TT skills to keep a constant pace, but he'll suffer in the high mountains". Then - "well, he won't be able to keep this up for all three weeks". Then - "after that amazing time trial, I wonder if he'll be suffering with tired legs for the remainder of the race?" Now - "AMAZING!"

you think Dumoulin is doping , even though you thought Wiggins was clean in 2012? Makes a lot of sense. Or not.

I really think that Rohan will be the next one, already a decent climber in smaller races (2014 California and a few weeks ago un Colorado) and LRP should bring some Know-how from Sky too help his Aussie mate.

Please, no common sense here. Thanks

The common sense in cycling is that GT contenders (and the rest) are doped.

When did that change?

Oh yeah when a fellow countryman starts to win.........
I can already see you sitting in front of your television with a bucket of popcorn. It must be a great time watching cycling together with you. No kidding. :)
Lovely big huge bucket of popcorn today, oh and i managed to wash my hair with alpecin just before the tv coverage :D I felt like a giant :)
