That's definitely a more accurate definition in my opinion. Crossing from one side to another side. That doesn't necessarily mean straight through.
No it doesn't. But "dwars door Vlaanderen" implies a rather rigorous way of crossing the area. "Across" doesn't quite work either.

How about 'All Through Flanders' or 'Right Across Flanders', are those a bit closer to the true meaning?

This is all really fascinating  but does anyone have any opinions about the race:p

Some riders will get on their bikes and either ride straight through or across Flanders, taking several hours to do so.

At some point, the route will travel over cobblestones.

How's that?

Dude, please read my post again. I said it was a more accurate definition vis-a-vis straight through in this case, in other words not spot on. Furthermore, across is ambiguous in it's way of crossing, whether it be straight, rigorous or whatever. Thus, I stand behind my opinion.

Dwars means straight through.

Nothing else, at least not in this context.

Seeing as they couldn't use the words Omloop and Ronde anymore they picked dwars. Whether it describes the course of the race perfectly or not is besides the matter.

Een pijl dwars door je hart --> An arrow straight through your hart. No one is going to say "an arrow across your hart" lol.

Straight through Flanders is the most accurate translation.

Not that it matter that much... too much of the races in Flanders these days are nothing but small Ronde van Vlaanderen copies

One thing's for certain, you have a knack for missing a point. Oh well, not worth getting into a perpetual argument about. Interpret it however you see it fit as long as the general idea is grasped.

If we're going to picky, the phrase is, "straight through the heart." A hart is a mature male deer. It is possible to shoot an arrow straight through a mature male deer too, but you need to be very close.

"It is nice being back on the vlaanderen ground.... Go to bed for sleep. Tomorow racing dwaars door vlaanderen in waregem (BEL). Good night"

Someone was looking at this thread I think

would love to see o'grady win, but keep thinking Devolder for some reason.

no Breschel for Rabo - injured?

He's actually undergoing a minor additional operation on his knee.

Too bad this thing, I would have liked to see him him race the classics for his new team... Let's see if his 100% for the Worlds at least!

Can you shoot around it? :)
