No it doesn't. But "dwars door Vlaanderen" implies a rather rigorous way of crossing the area. "Across" doesn't quite work either.

Dude, please read my post again. I said it was a more accurate definition vis-a-vis straight through in this case, in other words not spot on. Furthermore, across is ambiguous in it's way of crossing, whether it be straight, rigorous or whatever. Thus, I stand behind my opinion.

If we're going to picky, the phrase is, "straight through the heart." A hart is a mature male deer. It is possible to shoot an arrow straight through a mature male deer too, but you need to be very close.
