They should be delighted with the strength he displayed, a step-up that's for sure

Less so with the tactics, did he realise he was the best sprinter in the group

Did Van den Berg really think he had a better chance of winning solo than waiting for the sprint? Come on!

But he's developed into an impressive rider.
You probably didn't see the interview with him post-race then. He was really angry at himself for not waiting for the sprint. Called himself stupid. He thought he had the best sprint out of the group. But he found himself with a bit of a gap, and in the moment decided to go for it.

Okay, not getting a top 25 placing with that race development is insane :tearsofjoy:

Not entirely Healy’s fault that few riders in his smaller chasing group (before MVDP brought the other group back) were willing to work with him. Not sure what happened with Carapaz —went too deep on Redoubt?

I wasn't following the start list closely enough to know who has been on and off it.
I try to limit my enthusiasm to only a week in advance.

But now I am looking at the Giro route, meaning I read The Inner Ring blog.

I wonder if Pogacar might not want the pink from start to finish.
EF could be just the team to take up the burden of pink from day one.
Pink for the Pink!

I've thought about this. Not regarding EF specifically, but if Pogacar really wants to win this Giro without wasting all his energy before the Tour he shouldn't take pink from day 1 or at least - if he has it - give it away on stage 2 already to a breakaway rider. I think breakaways in mountain stages might have more chance than some people think (the ones that think Pogacar will win 8 stages) cause Pogacar wants to win this while saving a bit of energy. Which would be good for several team, EF definitely being on of them.

I wonder who they are going to take to Tour de France this year?
I guess Carapaz, Healy are certain if they're healthy?
I guess Uran unless he decided to skip it to prepare for the Olympics.
Powless would definetely be in if he had any form but hasn't raced since early March and had a knee problem IIRC so it's to be seen whether he will be fit to ride.
Then?
Van den Berg? Compared to other riders in the team he would deserve it but does the team think Tour de France is the right goal for him this year?
Bettiol? I guess if he's healthy and it doesn't interfere with his other goals.
Bissegger- I guess? Especially if Van den Berg is riding, Bissegger would be one of the few who could offer any support.
Doull or Sweeny to support Van den Berg if he's riding?
Shaw?
Quinn?
Valgren? Rutsch?
Carapaz' buddy Amador?
Carapaz could use more climbing support but a lot of the climbers are on the Giro roster. Could Rafferty or Ryan be considered? Neo-pros riding Tour de France is very rare these days. Or maybe someone from the Giro squad is going to ride a 2nd GT. The Giro squad is not confirmed yet, so maybe someone from the provisional Giro startlist is preparing for TdF.

A lot of question marks.

With the increased climbing ability displayed by Van den berg you take him to the Vuelta where there a number of suitable finishes.

Great post, these are some serious questions. I think Powless started to day in Germany.
If he is healthy things don't seem so dire.
Van den Berg is looking great.
Obviously Carapaz.

I'm going to wait until the Giro to see what is what.
