Superstrong Stybar there. BTW what's the best road-race-WC result of any cyclocross champion?

Only thing I can think of is Adri van der Poel who has been 2nd in the 1983 road WC and has won the cyclocross championship in 1996. He's also won RVV, LBL and a bunch of other big races. His son, Mathieu van der Poel is currently a first year espoirs and one of the biggest talents both on the road and on the field. As a junior he won both the cyclocross and the RR world championship, though. So he might get 1st where his father was 2nd .

does anyone know how many seconds/minutes received dumoulin as a penalty from race officials?

yes: zero, nada, nothing

That is a bit pathetic tbh. I always hate it when someone loses time because of mechanicals but rules are rules and I feel like Dumoulin being a Dutchman helper him get away with it.

Cancellara lost time on the first two stages...

Obviously the dutch roads are very dangerous when it's raining. The timeloss today was caused by a crash, also. Anyhow, he's exaggerating when he calls it "amateur parcours" on Twitter.

Idk exactly why, I saw his tweet. Gilbert was also asking to make things 'a bit more safe'. Apparently with the rain, the small roads and the roundabouts (I guess it's about that) it became sort of dangerous. I just saw a very entertaining race, not because it was dangerous but because every rider had to battle.

Some riders may find downhills in Switerzland dangerous. Or cobbles in Belgium.
If you want to evade all danger, don't go cycling on the road, but go into indivudual track pursuit. Then you only have yourself to blame with crashes

...and major parts of today's finishing circuit were part of last year's stage as well, so they were well known anyway. If that's the case, you should expect the riders to bring that up in advance if they really want to improve something, and not start whinging on twitter 15 minutes after the stage has finished.

So, what to expect of a <10 km TT eh?
Bit difficult to predict. If there are showers, they could really affect the result.
