Maybe Phil was just going to the front and Phinney happened to be in his wheel...

No, he brought him round the peloton on the bike path next to the road and when he had placed Phinney at the front of the peloton he peeled off with a smile on his face.

Wow. Just re-watched that footage. That was VERY blatant. There was no question that his intent was moving phinney.

I actually am hoping he goes to BMC .... Wonder if this means a deal has been done - or just posturing

He smiles most of the time when on his bike.

I couldn't imagine phil even working for taylor (in this position, in this race and considering the stages to come) if he rode for bmc this year. I think it means little.

he didnt ride the whole stage for him or anything.

He had a wheel change, and Phil brought him and another BMC dude from the back to the front, dropped him off and peeled off.

peleton was on a fairly narrow road, with about 20 to go .... Phil and Taylor skipped along a side bike path to front.

It was very VERY clear what he was doing - but wasnt as if Phinney was isolated or had no help etc.

Phil also (later) brought Greipel to the front, and there were a whole heap of other OPL guys there to lead him out - and he won the stage - so no actual harm was done.

IMO it was a message to his own management. That he is NOT HAPPY!!!!!

Does phinney have any chance of winning?

Overall??? Probably not. He'll fail on the "queen" stage

Today? Certainly no, as Gali will win the stage and Michielveedeebee will have a nice new avatar :) :) :)

I'm hoping for a van Hummel victory today..but think Skil is riding for Veelers on the flat stages...so most likely Greipel.

the stage, he looked quite strong yesterday but its pretty unlikely. He has a good chance for the ITT.
