Were you watching an L1 stream? Those guys are from Limburg, so they're practically German.
Yeah, it was L1 and they had this r which sounded halfway between the standard German r and the Dutch hard g. Were the other guys referring to this same r when they said it was normal in most of Flanders?

Nope, I was watching the broadcast on Sporza, and reckoned that was what you meant. Should've asked what you were watching.

The regular r here is the same as in, say Italian - or to be more precise, a rhotic r. Quite a matter for another topic really.

Rabo were very optimistic.
I stuck the pin by the name of Andre Greipel for another little forum's guessing game, so I'm pretty pleased.

Wouldn't be Dutchieland without a rash of crash.

I didn't see the whole stage, but as far as I'm aware the only crash occured inside the last three kms, when the complete peleton was jostling for position on a (imho) too narrow road.

There was quite a few crashes today.

Phinney even said Gilbert and BMC helped him keep position for the final.

You think luckyboy should put the transfer in the confirmed thread.

Is this Gilberts way of showing Quickstep to F off?

Not much respect toward his current team though.

Well, it sounds like the contract squabblings aren't very amicable. It's a bit unpleasant for his team mates though.

Maybe not Quickstep but BCC for sure.

Gorilla got the win so no harm I guess.

Bos was passing Greipel and at that moment Greipel steered to the right (to pass the guys in front) so Bos had to hold still (to prevent being thrown into the barriers).
Not maybe, fact. Watch heli replay

Not Greipels fault tho. Just road too narrow.

indeed, bos probably should have been placed a tad better. Of course it was a difficult finish all things considered.

Bos looked fast, but if you're behind Greipel when you launch your sprint, you're probably not in a good position.

I would very much like to see the footage of Phil towing Phinney to the front, anyone have it?

Bos looked fast because it was a strong headwind and he was the last to face it

My money is on Farrar tomorrow

If Rabobank actually make a train this time instead of wasting energy to fail creating an echelon than Bos wins hands down

Terribly narrow finish. Positioning was very important. You have to be near the front, but with a headwind you have to hit the front late. Greipel did it (barely). Yes, in moving out he blocked Bos, but it was a fair move. EBH boxed himself in.

Yes, Gilbert did help Greipel get back after the Rabo push. People just looking for something to make fuss about I guess.

“We were surprised by Rabobank but Philippe Gilbert and other guys did a good job to get me back to the front I didn’t see the late crash, I was at the front. I just saw some riders go down and I hope they’re ok. As we expected there was a crosswind but no team really made an big effort. Maybe it will happen tomorrow. It was pretty tough out there in the wind. it felt like the spring or autumn, not like the summer.”

Direct quote from Phinney

Wow. Just wow.

I read it again might be wrong in my reading...........

Strong winds, narrow roads and traffic furniture sparked several other earlier crashes and made for a nervous day in the saddle. Greipel was just glad to have made it to the front for his late dash to the line.

“It was pretty narrow so the team did a great job to keep me at the front,” he said. “I couldn’t find a gap at first and was only about 10th with 100 metres to go, but then I finally found a bit of space and I could do my sprint.”

Taylor Phinney climbed on the podium and pulled on the white overall leader’s jersey for the second day. He revealed he was trying to win the stage to pay back his hard working BMC teammates.

“My teammates did a such a great job all day today that I felt that I should test my legs and go for it,” he said.

But Gilbert did help Phinney move up - we all saw it and Eurosport UK made the comment Honest Guv.

That quote is pretty obviously from Greipel.

But having watched Gilbert bring Phinney up it made sense, but I had already said I may have read it wrong - but thanks for pointing it out again

Yes, that's pretty much what Greipel said in the interview they showed on Eurosport after the finish.

Though that doesn't negate the fact that we all saw Gilbert helping Phinney during the stage after Phinney had a wheel switch.

Maybe Phil was just going to the front and Phinney happened to be in his wheel...
