But it's true del Bosque is a deffensive coach, Arbeloa and not Juanfran, Busquets and Alonso togheter instead of one and delusional concept of false 9 without Messi. Even the strikers are a less-scoring than others.

Beside all of this Spain has huge players and can cope with the best but VDB halt part of the potential

very good post zam. :)
my thehog moment.

Bad form quoting yourself zamo, unless you got a score prediction spot on or something.:p

Yes, Pirlo was a delight to watch first half, but it was one of those games of two halves, where the dominant side comes out for the second half and forgets to play - until it's too late. By the way, there was much surprise in clogland at Italy's attacking football - in fact, the match was a lot of fun to watch, thanks to Croatia's play too. Sad to think that one of Italy, Croatia and Spain will have to miss out.

Bummer for Ireland, but their fans were fantastic!
Good for Torres, but that late Fabregas goal gives Del Bosque a dilemma.

If I were Del Bosque, I'd drop Alonso and put both Torres and Fabregas in, and have Xavi drop a little deeper to help Busquets. They need to win, and I don't think Croatia's defense has been that good. Modric and Mandzukic have just made defending unnecessary. Spain could do some serious damage.

Pirlo and Cassano were very good once again. Modric and Mandzucic were good for Croatia. Enjoyed the game. Mandzucic could be a target for a few EPL clubs. He's a beast in the air.
Fell asleep before the Spain vs Ireland match. Kick off was at 12.15 Am and it's very hard to stay awake on a tired day.

France Ukraine and England Sweden.

Based on the Sweden Ukraine match, we could see some fireworks today. Sweden certainly needs/wants to win and based on their first match, I'd say they ought to give England a run for their money.

France was uninspiring the first match, but they also want to clinch the win, instead of having to rely on the last match against Sweden (who could be out by then, if they lose today?). France needs to step up their game and not fall into the trap of walking the ball to the opponents 16, to then hit a brick wall of 8 defenders. Ukraine is a very fast, counterattacking team, so I wonder how France will manage to create those opportunities. Based on the first game though, France might get more opportunities, since Ukraine played a much more attacking style than England; less compact and perhaps leaving more space between the lines. I wonder though if Ukraine will change their tactics against France.

Hup voetbal hup! :D

Italy have failed at easy hurdles so many times before - draw to NZ, loss to Slovenia was it, failing in group with Sweeden Denmark and Bulgaria, i can see them failing again here.

If Spain and Croatia draw (which going by Sweeden denmark arrangment 2004, they might), Italy will have to beat Croatia by 2-0 and depending on score of draw, it would be safer to win by 3.

I hope by all means that Croatia-Spain plays it 2-2. Meaning Italy is out no matter their result against Ireland.

Buffon was crying loudly about how unfair and fixed the Sweden-Denmark match was, (It was nowhere near played as to get that result bar the last minutes of the match. But who can blame two teams that are through to be playing sideways in the last minutes..?) while he and the entire nation is, as we speak, accused, yet again, for matchfixing.

Loved Vedran Corluka's repons btw: "Again, who's one in a matchfixing scandal..?"

Is Spain and Croatia draw 2-2, Italy might as well win by 78, they're out.

Not good enough sadly...

I have 5€ on France to win it all since before the beginning of the Euro. 11/1 was too generous IMO, the French have a strong team.

I believe I got the same odds. Great odds, yes! I got France, Russia and Kroatia as winners. It will most likely be Germany or Spain though. But the odds were quite high on these teams and you never know.

I have to say some of the criticism of Trap over here is a joke. We were a laughing stock before he took over. We were getting hammerred by Cyprus and it look us to get a last minute winner to get a win against the minnows San Marino. That is the kind of shambles Trap took over from Steve Staunton.

For crying out loud we would of qualified for the last World Cup only for Henry's handball. Trap has brought a professionalism and he has inferior players to work with compared to days of Jack Charlton and Mick McCarthy when we qualified for major tournaments. As Liam Brady said, it is a media agenda who want to criticise Trap now. It is a disgrace. We don't have the quality and people need to get that in to their heads quickly over here. People should be delighted we were here in the first place as I thought even as good as Trap was we would never qualify for a major tournament because of the lack of quality of players we have.

BTW the Irish fans were fantastic last night. They represented the country brilliantly.

Thought the players did as well to be fair. They ran their socks off trying to contain Spain. A lof of better teams would have struggled equally as badly last night against the football Spain played.
