pretty pathetic that a team with that much talent took 80+ min to get behind this Portugal defense (which is by no means good) and really the contest was flat at this point (after germany took lead again) and over.

Terrible performance all round.

Is willem's all you got because you cant really blame him he's so young i feel for him he's looked lost every game he is good on the ball but posisionally really bad.

He looked fairly composed against the Danes at first, but against Germany he was absolutely terrible, the Germans just mercilessly charged down his flank. Hopefully his career isn't harmed by the experience. At times against Germany I was reminded of Winston Justice, the Philadelphia Eagles OT who was absolutely destroyed on his first NFL start; through the whole game the Eagles did nothing to help him, no double block, no backup, nothing, even when it was clear he was outmatched. The Dutch needed to do something to protect him in that game.

I think the worst part is that even when they needed to score two goals it didn't look like they could be arsed. Portugal dominated most of the game, but the Netherlands didn't even press too hard, not even towards the end.

The dutch need to start realizing that you need 'real defenders' to be a top country, and that those guys need to be trained as defenders from the youth academies all the way to the top. I can't list any world class soccer nation that has a defenders as horrible as the dutch.

Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Spain. All of them have world class defenders, some of whom can even pass and have technical skills  The dutch have people who wouldn't be competitive in the English second league. I am not blaming the young guys, but the fact that those are the ones you have to resort to, is a disgrace.

All in all, the dutch had no business at this EC. They were outclassed on all fronts.

It is a shame I don't believe in Karma, because I would have something big comming my way. My teams, athletes I support, you name it, have all been so shafted the last year.

Btw Christian Eriksen, DK nr 8. awwww.... so cute. Hehe.

Same defence two years ago. Btw Argentina's defence isn't that good. Even Spain got troubles at left and right back. And it's not like let's create some top defenders. Dutch football culture is not like the Italian one, where defending is more important. We became famous as football nation with an attacking style of play. Yes, then we had better defenders, now we don't have. We are a country with 16 million people, it already is a miracle we've such good players in the front. Just some bad luck at the back.

And such a bull**** about English second league. Some Dutchies play there who'll never reach this level. There you just need to be strong and tall, like that Irish defender  I just name Arjan de Zeeuw in the past, Glenn Loovens  He can't even play at Feyenoord.

Yeah, I don't think there's a structural problem with Dutch football or anything. They just had one crappy tournament.

Well, the problem was 2 years ago when they ditched their signature attacking football for no discernible reason.

Exactly. We ditched our style for chance. When luck is on our side, anything is possible as the team is quite talented. Without luck, it looks like we've seen in the last 3 games. No base, no teamwork, no passing game.

16 millions?! No wonder I see nothing but dutch people when traveling in foreign countries. I knew there were a lot but 16 million? F***ing hell, claustrophobic much, eh!?

Pity that Ron Vlaar lost some years due to a injury. And guys like Ryan Donk who were good at U 19 level didn't kick off at the senior level.
You have had some Great Centre Back pairings in the past, so this might be just a generational problem.
