Hey look...England play boring as f.ck football and fluke a goal

Typical

Sounds a lot like Spain yesterday.

Thank God France lost, saving us the England vs. Spain battle for the ages. A real insomnia cure that would be, with England sticking 10 men behind the ball and letting the Spanish pass it around in front of them, and Spain with no strikers (or worse, Torres on his own up front) passing the ball around patiently waiting for an opportunity that isn't going to come.

I'm really disappointed in the way Spain play at the moment. It's effective, but it's hardly the beautiful football it's made out to be... it's slow, it's ponderous, and a legacy built on 1-0 is not a legacy of greatness. I know I'm an Athletic Club fan, but I really don't see what more Fernando Llorente has got to do (or what more Fernando Torres has got to NOT do) to get a game. There are hardly any forwards in the squad, and they're playing none of them

Can't see Spain or Italy going any further than this in the tournament. You really got through from group C easily, you only had to beat Ireland. Spain was no better than Croatia but got a lucky win 'cause Croatia opened up their defense and Croatia should've had two or at least one penalty but Stark has no balls or Spain has bought some referees.

yeh cause england and france are playing so well... oh wait.

germany v italy
spain v portugal

imo.

England are so boring I really hope Italy will win (they will :) )
And France, can't see them beating Spain.

Germany will easily win against Greece.
Czech lack the quality to beat Portugal

So it's as Timmy says..
semis will be Germany - Italy and Spain - Portugal. Final Germany-Spain and Germany will win

The news is great this morning. " Ukraine Robbed!", "Blatter says goal line technology a necessity!"

How about offside technology?

Yes, it’s comical to see english media/fans bleating about Sepp, even when they agree with him...

In this country they are absolutely adamant that there can be no video technology, but there has to be goal line technology.

It would be hillarious therefore if a goal that was offside but went over the line worked to their detriment.

Surely the simplest solution would be to give a team a limited number of challenges so they wouldnt abuse it, but at the same time, the absolute daylight robbery situations would be less frequent.

all kinds of technology should be introduced to the game in order to improve it's quality.

no more wrong decisions, players being punished for simulations/aggressions that the referee failed to see is something that would make football a much better sport.

Yeah, I don't understand all this talk about refereeing mistakes being "part of the nature of the game". They aren't. The nature of the game is the 22 blokes passing the ball around. The refs are simply a necessary evil, and they're there because there was no better option when football started. Now there is: microchips, instant video replays and a team of refs whose work is to make the calls after zooming in the slow motion replay. There are ways to restrict it so that it doesn't ruin the pace of the game. The only thing lacking is the will to introduce change.

Controversy creates cash.

Everytime a game is won or lost due to a controversy the tabloids ring it in the next day. The tv stations have more material for their appauling "documentaries" football websites and forums get huges spikes in visitors.

They are still cashing in on maradonas handball.

Well said. I absolutely concur.

___________

This is not a typical american sport with stops every 30 seconds where they eventually talk more than they actually play.

This is a fast game. Challenges would destroy the tempo of a football game completely. There aren't free time to put in a break to watch a challenge. That said, there should be goal line technology. But the technology, they are working on, is not a camera technology. It's something that would give the referee a little 'shock' in a device if the ball is either in or out. Simple and smooth without any interruptions - as it should be.

Challenges are a horrible idea and thankfully that's not the direction the big associations are going either.

when there is a controversy do footballers just play on and take it on the chin so that you have your " simple smooth game without any interruptions"?

As i remember if there is a controversy the players surround the referee shout at him, the ref goes to speak to his assistant on the other side, the managers get involved, the players fight amongst themselves.

If on the other hand you had a challenge system it would go a lot quicker.

And would you not find it interesting if a replay determined whether a players red card was reversed or not?

It would happen max 2 -3 times a game, and more likely 0, so i dont see your point about how it would disrupt the game

On the other hand you lose about 10 minutes every match of your "simple smooth game without interruptions" on footballers faining injuries then standing back up.

At the very least players should be giving hefty punishments post game.
For example if a player dived and it was missed by ref, they should be given a month off.

also media we get the idea, every english player think's england are top dog at euro. Gonna be hilarious when italy beat them.

I agree that this sort of cheating should be dealt with. It was actually UEFA who backed off in the Eduardo one. The only reason Eduardo got charged in the first place was because of Gordon Smith(Scottish FA chief executive) calling for it and that there is a strong Scottish influence in UEFA with Gordon Taylor and Andy Roxburgh prominent figures there. Just look at the Lithuanian player who got charged for diving to win a penalty a few years back in an European Championship qualifying match against Scotland. He actually got banned for 2 games. The 2 players who have got charged had something to do with Scotland. They charge these 2 players but they have done nothing against the serial divers in the game like Drogba. Just look at his behaviour this season in the Champions League semi-final against Barca at Stamford Bridge and UEFA just turned a blid eye to this fellow over the years.

Ooops sorry, uefa.

To be fair to drogba. he is so stupid that he keeps diving for pointless gains like 30 seconds, or a free kick 50 yards out, that i dont know if he has ever got any real advantage from diving. I mean compared to the player who doesnt dive much but when he does its for a penalty eg gerrard. In fact it probably hurt him when he was legitamately fouled for once in the cl semi when chelsea had their best chance to win the CL. But a few bans would have been nice and straightened footballers out.

Also i wonder if a 2 match ban is sufficient punishment. I mean in an important match you will take the shot at a penalty for a 2 match ban. If you are a sub your team might see it as worhy self sacrifice.

ps what happened to your avatar.

agreed punishment needs to be more severe.

Diving should be heavily discourgaed.

Blatent dive = 4 to 5 weeks.
maybe dives which aren't so bad a week or two.

Yeah those are the ones i was reffering to and i was always peeved with Liverpool fans claiming he wasnt diving when it was so bait.

The worst one and the first one i saw though was the cl final. And Rafa benitez had the gall to say gatusso deserved red. Gattusso touched his shirt, his feet were 2 metres away and gerrard fell down and slid accross the area.

Worth more than a thousand dives outside the area.
