In my opinion Roglič should assess his chances and if chances are low he should abandon the Tour and focus on new goals. Healthy Roglič could get that amount of time back, as for injured one ...

For years i had high opinion of the Tour, but this years fiasco seriously undermined that. I do expect for cyclists to give everything they got. To suffer physicality and mentally and to do that tremendously. But for me it stops when it is obvious i am watching a circus with a freak show and the bar is set beyond the body bag. And nobody really cares and find that amusing.

Pogačar said they sent them down a narrow road full of holes at the end of the stage all knew will finish in a high speed bunch sprint. There is just no excuse for that after Poland.

Such reduced and broken up GC squad. What is the point in watching that. Like with the sprinters, Bennett missing, OK then second tire ones will get a chance. Oh no, they crashed, third tier to get a chance ... If the best of the best are basically eliminated on stage 3 then the race can't be considered to be first tier anymore. Just do the train or something and lets get it over with.

Anyway i am not watching this GT race actively anymore. Good luck to you Primož with whatever you decide to do next.

I think it is not in Roglic's nature to abandon the Tour if he can continue, regardless of whether a win is possible. But if he left the Tour early and worked on recovery/healing and rebuilding form, he would probably be the favorite for the Vuelta, even considering Bernal and possible other top GC contenders.

Rog not getting a Tour title in his career would be suck though. I mean you can only win this many consolation Vueltas before the bitterness gets to you.

Trouble is the TT is coming up the day after tomorrow. That's where he should start building up an advantage over most of his competitors. If he under performs by a lot due to the crash even guys like Carapaz and Ala who are still up there in GC will threaten to finish higher than him. And of course Pog would run away with yellow.

Not that I would ever wish this on anyone, but frankly the way this tour is going I’d almost be surprised if some of the other GC guys don’t get into more trouble. He isn’t down by much and with the short TT may be able to stay only a minute down on Pog. The next 3 days are all good for recovery even considering 1 is a TT. Hopefully he can heal up and be strong by week 2.

I like your optimism. Seeing the glass half full sometimes takes more effort than the other way around. But I can't see Roglic coming back from today's beating/crash. Day 1 was bad enough, but not too bad. But today was brutal.

Yes, this edition is something i don't remember ever seeing. We paid the tickets for the battle of the ages and got a replay of some crap instead. Roglič is my favourite but it's not just about Roglič. It's just crap in general. Bennett? Prove it. TM? Prove it. But you can't, can you. As how could you. It's not narrow but the opposite. As it should be narrow if it should be considered first tire. Roglič is my GOAT. GOAT is subjective definition and it now helps i don't have the highest opinion about the Tour anymore.

In short get your *** together Tour or sell this crap to other people. I can watch Vuelta or Giro just fine until then.

GOAT is subjective to an individual, but history does not recognize 'Greatest GC Racer of All Time' without at least one TdF title. Wiggo even won a TdF! FYI: John Tomac is the GOAT!

Bennett is favorite against Merlier. Merlier has won in Giro&Tour but Bennett wasn't there and Ewan didn't get to do his sprint in those stages. The rest of Merlier's wins are not even top tier. No bookie would place Merlier above Bennett.

I didn't say worst ever as that would be subjective. I said it is crap and gave my reasons for it. If i would have more patience i would likely give you a follow up answer as @Luthor did. But i have been down that road many times before and i know it never ends. As the second you started claiming some second or third tier sprinters are surely better then Bennett. Or basically on how it doesn't really matter if Roglič participates in a GC battle ... By then this debate was already over.

OK then plan A, B and C are now out of the picture. As for plan D. If Roglič somehow manages to get back to around 80% in week 1.

Carapaz could still lose some time on TT and some time might be gained with collecting bonifications. Thomas is rather close and as such still manageable. Pogačar will be harder to crack and i guess not losing more time in week 1 against Pogačar. That would be OK for now.

I've seen many TdFs and these first 3 stages are some of the worst starts I've ever seen if you want to see an interesting GC battle. All that anticipation for Pog&Rog is now done. Unless you are a MVDP/Alpecin fan then everything is going great. If you are a Roglic fan then for sure this is the worst ever. And guess in which thread are you in now..."worst ever" it's all subjective.
Then ignore the sprinters discussion or don't come with *** facts.

I haven't call him GOAT in terms of GC, I'm just saying he is ahead of Wiggins.

I agree with Froome and Pog. Dumoulin and Nibali is debatable. Then why Carapaz and Thomas were seen less favorites than him this year if they had bigger peaks? Roglic was tired in Vuelta and did a lot of mistakes, still won the Vuelta against Carapaz.
