Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

This win is not less dominant than Pog's Tour this year. Different race, different competitions. Maybe look less restrained, but not less potential for even harder stomp if he wished.
Not sure Roglic has a better year than Pogacar though, Tour is always the biggest, and it's not like Pogacar doesn't have another big win this year.
These two guys are just getting more and more intimidating, Roglic seems to win almost everything he doesn't have misfortune in, while Pogacar's consistency in big races (podium all GTs, top 10 all WT races, top 20 all monuments he finished) doesn't look like something that will end quickly.

What Roglic showed in this race was that elusive quality called race nous. He followed every move and made every selection that counted. Knowing when to make your move is a big part of winning.
He also was stronger than in any other GT he's ridden; no sickness, no crash injuries that hampered him, no team cars on 'natural breaks'.
Pogi will have a Really Strong Opponent next year :). But will TJV be able to assist him when needed? He basically stomped this race while isolated too many times.

@Oldermanish

I agree that a ski jumper likely knows how to ski. But beyond that i would say both disciplines are worlds apart. Hence the specifics of the training too. Take two season high record holders, Tina Maze in skiing and Peter Prevc in ski jumping. As likely they are both great all rounders in their respective sports. I just don't see Prevc skiing or Maze jumping and for any of them to show any meaningful results going against the pros.

'likely'?
A skier has no reason to learn to jump unless they want to. However a jumper Must know how to ski first.

It would be a hard thing to do in practice, avoiding it, but theoretically you don't have to know skiing a whole lot to do ski jumping. For example you can be rally bad at slalom and can still be a good ski jumper.

It's just different.

Personally i said whoever will win TDF is a better cyclist this season, for me. As i anticipated it will be in between the Slovenians. Roglič DNF got in a way of that. If Pogačar gets some prestigious awards this year that is OK by me. If Roglič would get some that is perfectly fine too. As this was a majestic season for both. As for Roglič winning an Olympic gold medal in ITT, likely a GT race, week long stage race, maybe Il Lombardia ... Don't know if he will participate in any other national team event this year. Well all in all i guess the season isn't over yet!

Anyway, today Roglič has a chance to become tenth cyclist in history with a GT hat-trick.

AFAIK Roglič has not yet win a stage wearing red jersey at La Vuelta and AFAIK no pro cyclist has ever win a GT race riding with disc brakes.

This is how you ride a Pony in Slovenia.

Were did slalom come into this? Although any decent skier can slalom, not race slalom but slalom.
Have you ever skied?

Earlier in this debate alpine skiing got mentioned. As for skiing in Slovenia. It's i guess rather hard not to ski or ski jump at least as a kid. On one side skiers and on another some improvised ski lift and kids all over the field. Then there is sankanje (sledding) and improvised sledding where you take some dry hay and put it in a bag and go down the hill. It's in the bag. But this last discipline is getting replaced with other more modern forms of snow entertainment lately.

All in all hard to avoid doing at least some of that living in Slovenia.

I'd have to say as a lifelong skier that has raced regionally, done some arials and bumps: You'd want to be good at all of those before you get on a jumping ramp. I would never attempt it unless it involved a water landing. There is no way out once you start...and end. As for someone being bad a slalom and good at ski jumping; fair enough. That's a training comparison to someone being bad at motocross but good at Zwift.

Roglic is built more like a good Alpine skier than a Nordic jumper.
