He might want to race Burgos and destroy the competition to make it clear that he's a leader for the Vuelta, and he won't just be a domestique for Vingegaard until Vinge actually takes enough time to claim such a role from Roglic

Rogla could stomp all over at Burgos or try to fine tune the art finishing 1s ahead of the rest in GC. I find both approaches fascinating and enjoy them. So it will indeed be interesting to see on what approach will be selected. Maybe to hang on for four days and stomp on the fifth. We'll see.

I think he's racing Burgos because the form is there & he just wants some racing in the legs. Jumbo says he's had the best preparation for the Vuelta since 2019:

As for Vingegaard... who knows. I can't begin to guess what shape he'll be in.

In any case I think Burgos is going to be pretty exciting. It should also be viewable online on Eurosport (& GCN+ or Eurosport Player via an Xbox), at least I hope. Otherwise I'll be watching via L'Equipe TV, which isn't ideal due to the numerous commercial breaks.

I think Roglic racing Burgos makes a lot of sense sine he took a long break after the Giro. Just to get the race legs back on.

I don't think Rogi is that fearful of being a dom for Vinegaard and Burgos isn't a big enough race to change the minds of the Jumbo-Visma brass even if Roglic win by 5 mins. Likewise if Roglic has a lukewarm Burgos he won't be forced to do dom work.

Jumbo loves double captains, they even got Kuss to stick around in the GC in the Tour. Rogi and Vingegaard both has a GT in their legs so males sense to hedge their bets and the captaincy will most likely sort it self out by their performances.

Yeah maybe. I am not loving it, but I guess the majority has spoken. Rogla just doesn’t sound or read like a very appealing nickname.
You should consider that both Pogi and Rogla nicknames are “approved” by their respective carriers. And for a very good reason. In Slovenian, Rogi sounds - well, it sounds like Bambi. While Pogi though phonetically quite close has a completely different spin/vibe. Of course, that doesn’t automatically translate to other languages - but it is what it is…

From an American and Latino (by marriage) standpoint, Pogi sounds enduring and the “I” something you’d add to someone younger than yourself that you’re fond of. Rogi sounds like you’re belittling the someone your same age or older. Rogla is something affectionate you’d call someone that you look up too. In my opinion, but as long as we know who we’re all talking about.

In my opinion, that’s quite close to how these nicknames resonate in their original language. Except for a little detail in “Rogla” which is a familiar skiing resort/hill in Slovenia and adds a bit of “people’s” aspect. You know, dancing drunk to the tunes of accordion…😁 Well maybe you don’t… imagine Bilbo Baggins’ birthday party😁 But at the same time, it has a badass component to it…

Roglic chose Rogla as his own twitter handle, so one would assume he approves of it. And it's a link to his background, both as a Slovenian and a ski jumper, because it's the name of a Slovenian ski resort. What's not to like about it?

Man has yet to cross the line with his hands in the air this year.

Washed.

So easy. Like he didn’t have to really sprint. And then he simply freewheeled across the line without lifting an arm.

Time for a mea culpa: a while back (start of 2022) I said I thought he was starting to be on the downhill.

I was wrong.

He is simply less spectacular than the Pogs, Vingos and Remcos of this world in how he wins. But damn is he consistent and gets it done.

I was also fearing he was in a decline. Certainly looked that way in 2022. But luckily, he seems to have a few more stomps up his sleeve…
