It's never a given that a rider will recover fully from injuries, so I guess he could have been done.

Yeah recovery from the Vuelta crash was the big question. Rest of the season wasn't that indicative of being washed up.
Meanwhile, he can win the other 2 stages too if he's greedy.
It wasn’t the injuries. He didn’t have any at the time. He just won the Olympic time trial and the Vuelta. It was his subpar, for him, Paris-Nice and his age. That juxtaposed with all these young guns, who are winning more spectacularly, made him feel a little bit like a Cadel Evans, who could hang tough in most situations, but rarely could make the winning difference.
As I said, I stand corrected.
He’s a super strong rider, just, in my opinion, not exactly the most exciting.

He had a single bad day in Paris - Nice, I don't think he looked bad the rest of the race.

At first glance last season, he only had one really good performance (by his standard) and that was the Vuelta stage where he dropped Remco. But in hindsight I guess his Dauphine was a good performance as well - it’s just that at the time few of us realised how good Vingegaard really is and thought Rogla’s Dauphine was subpar…

Maybe this coming Vuelta will end the rear-view appraisal of his career? Everyone should be on notice that he appears very ready.

Since his shoulder operation he's been flying.
I think those two injuries (shoulder which was niggling him for a few years already + knee injury) really hurt his 2022 season. I think he's currently exactly where he should be tbh, i.e. capable of winning any race he enters, against any opposition.
I also have to say I'm actually quite enjoying Burgos so far. That was some good racing today.

But today his performance was sort of what you might expect. If Adam Yates had been able to drop him that would have been a worrying sign.

Adam Yates did drop Evenepoel on Jebel Hafeet, but then again I too have Rogla a level above him.He's won every race he entered so far this year. If that means you're washed, well, I think most riders would gladly take it

Roglic looks primed for a Vuelta win, but I wonder how the dynamic between him and Jonas will look, as we have no idea how Jonas’ form will be in a second GT during a calendar year.

I think team dynamics might be a problem for Roglic even if he is stronger in this Vuelta. Say they drop the field hypothetically in a MTF. What happens then? They will pull together for some time, that's a given. Will they eventually be allowed to attack each other if one of them is stronger? If not, Roglic loses this Vuelta by default in ITT. And even taking a step back - will they even ever be pulling together to distance the field? Or will it always be one man going, the other one tactically waiting at the back of the group of followers? And if so, who will be the one doing the attacks? If it's Jonas, then Roglic is scr*** again...
Best case scenario for Roglic is a very strong Remco. A Remco that is able to put both of them in trouble and then if Roglic is equally strong as Remco while Jonas is weaker, I think that's the best chance he has at taking this Vuelta.

Roglic is definitely using his strength skill set and brains a lot more the last two seasons. He’s looked far and away better twice, when he dropped Evenepoel and the Giro TT. Otherwise he is consistently there riding in his means and smartly gaining time with his faster acceleration. I think it’ll be a pity if Vinge being present details him from winning the overall.
Gaining seven more wins by the end of the year is a little presumptuous.

I didn’t mean it in a sense of anyone being not allowed to win. It’s just that if they are the best two riders on the grid, the optimal way for TJV would probably be for them to ride together. That way you probably keep better prospects for both of them and you don’t risk one of them cracking and losing time to competition.
I think the same approach will apply even if they are the strongest while Jonas being a bit stronger. I don’t think he will attack Roglic in this case either (just as he didn’t in Dauphiné). I’m guessing they will have some sort of agreement to ride together to maximise team’s chances and then sort it out in TT.
I just don’t see them dropping each other once they have dropped everybody else.

Well, looks at the opposition he's facing... I'd pick Vingo in the very mountanious 1 week stage races, but Roglic in the easier ones, and I'd definitely go Pogacar above them all in every 1 week race every day of the week and twice on Sundays!

Above him all sprinters. Well, he is an uphill sprinter after all, so there's no surprise he is in this company. I wonder who is the next best uphill sprinter on the list. Is it Pogačar already?

Indeed Rogla has a distinctive winning style. It sets him apart compared to the riders mentioned.
P.S. Congrats on the win today and lets see if a hat-trick is in reach! Would make for a nice flat, mid and MTF sprint win collection.
That would be a BIG end to his season. I hope that he does, but won't be let down if he doesn't.
