Funny how Netserk and Red Rick probably are the most outspoken against defensive minded riders on this forum, but still somehow are singing the praises of Rogla.

I don't get it. Not like I dislike the guy either, but his racing this year has been really smart, but incredibly boring to watch.

Roglic is in a decline of his career and trying to do the best he can. You think he is holding back or something? Even today he had some troubles closing the gap two times. So nah, that is the reality and it will show even more at the Vuelta.

Yeah, true decline, win 4 out of 4 races he started this season. One has to wonder what did he do when he was in peak years of his career...

Yes, some people in the forum act in one way if Pogačar or Remco are racing and in almost the opposite way if its Roglič or Vingegård employing the same racing tacticts.

@bNator I would argue Roglič must have been really close to his best in the second half of Vuelta 2021, he was flying back then and put almost 5 minutes into Enric Mas which makes sense because that year his crash at the Tour 2021 wasn't as severe as last year.

Still, this year with a perfect preparation, he is probably looking like the most likely winner of the Vuelta 2023.

Roglič is the Niki Lauda/Alain Prost of pro-cycling. He measures what he does, when he does it & how he does it perfectly - within his own limits & with an eye on his further goals (as is evident in Burgos).

But I mean I've seen all the 'criticism' this evening of his performance today (& lack of celebration), but what do people want? Fireworks a week before the Vuelta? You have to be realistic here.

Yeah, here we can read that he's been in decline for the last three years. But if he wins the Vuelta, this will be by far his best season.

I agree it's funny how Valverde was constantly sh*t on by this forum but people seem to love Roglic for being TT Valverde. But then you have to say, you really cannot criticize Roglic for riding the way he rode last week. This race went absolutely picture perfectly for him and any big attack would have been completely unnecessary. If you want to criticize someone then it has to be his rivals...or the organizers for making that route. I mean did anybody expect this race to go any differently with a TTT on stage 1?

Roglic farming wins by wheelsucking and sprinting in small spainish races against Adam Yates and proconti riders whilst avoiding the biggest gc stars. Would like to see plenty of hard remco attacks on la vuelta, hopefully it brings out some aggression in roglic.
Yeah, he should ride against Skjelmose in Denmark instead, or in Norway against Johannessen and Guillaume Martin.

It's because they're two hypocrites. They actually just like riders for random reasons just like all the rest of us, yet pretend there is some system to who they like. Then, when a rider they like rides in a manner they usually criticise, they just begin writing poems or write something non-sensical that only makes sense inside their heads.

Because apparently, admitting that a rider they like rides a little differently than how they would like would be the worst thing in the world.

You can't find me criticising Valverde for riding like Rogla did today. But you are free to conjure up contradictions out of your own lack of understanding.

I also doubt you could show an example of me pretending that there is some specific system to whom I cheer for.

He's got La Vuelta starting in a week; why in the world would he ride any harder than needed?

Congratulations on winning Vuelta a Burgos and thank you for still celebrating each win as it would be the first win ever. Onto La Vuelta on where i am sure that history will be written again. This year, next year and for years to come. Ultimate Vuelta.

This guy is a great rider, but he is way of winning is always so boring. It's a shame because i think he has the physical condition to attack from far and beat everybody like pogacar, Vingegaard, remco or van der poel do, but i respect the people who like is way of race.
I don't think he has. He's great but i doubt he can pull off a nuclear attack from far out and beat the best for a lot of time.

What he can do is stick with the best until the final kms and beat all of them to the finish line.

So why not use your strengths? Remco doesn't wait until the final km because he knows if he's there with the best, he's going to lose. The same with Vinge.

That also means Roglič will not have many GT wins by a huge margins like Pog or Vinge have.

Different riders, different strengths, different styles.

Just realised he is seven years older than the oldest on your list 😳

But never mind - this is just Rogla setting the stage for his ultimate stomp in this Vuelta where he will show these youngsters how it’s done😎

I think he just adopted "celebrate when you know you won mentality". Stage wins mean nothing to him anymore, specially in smaller races. And he had so many falls and DNFs that now he really doesn't care until the last day is over.

He cares and stage wins still mean a lot. Rogla is just practicing on how not to celebrate due to the potential need to stomp Jonas. Just being a gent.

It's not a given he beats Pogi in an uphill sprint. To the contrary...
