I guess it's exciting to reignite hopes of a tour de France win but come on, does anyone really think he can win the tour if Ving or pogi ride it? I like roglic. Pogi has long season and wins Lombardia...Rog has long season and gets third. Winning tour is not happening. But good to think it ...I guess. Take the money ..smart...but winning tour. No. Jumbo gave him many chances. How many times did he crash? What if he crashes w Bora ?
The tour is better for Roglic being there though. Third place being 12 minutes down is a disaster, Roglic won’t be 12 minutes down

The rest of the team and Kuss especially came in clutch to keep Roglic close to Geriant. Otherwise without Kuss pacing him up the mountain after he got dropped, Roglic could have dominated the TT and still lost the Giro due to the mechanical that occurred.
Of course the team helped Roglic after he was recovering from the crash and without Sepp, he would lose the Giro. But that was not my claim at all. I was saying:
1. This Giro, TJV was not the top team. Ineos was. And Roglic still won. And could have won much more convincigly in different circumstances (no crash, Vuelta form...)
2. Bora can produce a much better team than TJV this Giro. Whether they will, is another question, but put Hindley, Vlasov, Kamna, Schachmann, etc. and it's not even close.

He crashed and had a lot of problems in Giro because of that. Hi's tranier who is going to Bora now said days days ago how much problems they had with his injuries and how much pain he was in all the time.

Roglič has one big problem in his Tour or any GT bid. Staying healthy (not crashing) before them and during. I just want to see him coming in the Tour without injuries and making it through it without them. He doesn't have much time...
Yes he did and the team helped cover his weakness until he was able to come and destroy everyone in the TT. If the team and Kuss especially weren’t there, that TT domination could not have been enough to win. That’s my point.

I agree on that, he can just use UAE and Jumbo’s strengths(not like Bora won’t be strong as well). Hopefully all three are in shape and have no issues because if so this will be the first time in a long time there were three strong threats with all of them having strong teams.

We just have a different meaning of top. I see it is having one of the strongest team, which he had plus Kuss being the best domestique. Maybe he could have won by more and maybe he wouldn’t have but we will never know how much the crash took out of him. Just like we will never know what would have happened of Evenepoel and Hart remained in the race or Geriant didn’t crash either.

If Bora shows up with that line up they’d be one of if not the best team. Bora would have the Adam card UAE did this year plus more. Imagine Vinge alone surrounded by UAE(Pog, Adam, Almeida, and Ayuso) and Bora(Roglic, Hindley and Vlasov).

To all the posters who claim Roglic has no legitimate shot at winning the Tour and should not focus on that. That's complete insanity. He is number 3 GC racer in the world. If he doesn't, who does? Applying this logic, all GC contenders should just go elsewhere and it would be just Vinge vs Pog because you know, why bother?
Exactly.

Anything can happen to the 2 riders above him who are putative favorites. A broken wrist, a crash, gastro, covid etc...what are the odds that Vingegaard and Pogi will go 1-2 for a fourth year in a row? Let's say Roglic is in top form; he's going to likely finish 3d; but at the same time it's not unreasonable to assign a 33/66 percent chance that something bad could happen to JV and TP either in the runup or during the Tour. Then he's second, or maybe first.

Can he win if all 3 are in top shape? I'm not sure he's that far behind Pogi, to be honest. Pogacar has not dominated him in head to head the way you could argue that Vingegaard has beat Pogacar in the last 2 tours. So, yeah, he's an outside shot for 2nd over Pogacar, especially if Pogacar doesn't race smart and burns some energy.

(of course the above about crashing etc applies to Roglic but I'm hopeful he'll stay upright through July...)

All three? I think there are four (Remco).

I've said it before; it's very much Cadel Evans 2010/11 vibes here. A lot can happen between now and next July, and Roglic is still one of the better GT riders in the peloton. He is an outside chance to win the Tour, but he's far from what you would call a roughie.

Prepare optimally and then see what happens.

Roglic needs a top team to win a GT otherwise he has no chance. Evidence to the contrary: 2023 Giro win
His team literally won him the Giro. He won the Giro by 14s. Kuss saved way more than 14s for him during some stages.

I do believe that Roglic can still win a GC. For example if he had his Vuelta 2023 form in the Giro of 2023, we wouldn't be having this discussion. As long as Remco also had COVID of course ;)

I just wanna make sense of @danielovichdk2 strange logic here, to be honest.

My view is: If Roglic fails to win another GT (which the poster claims he will), then it will not be because of Bora is not a good enough team. In theory, their best possible roster is much better as TJV's on this years Giro and their training method should be good enough too(how else would they come up with a good enough roster). So the only way I can see Rogla failing due to being in Bora is incompatible training method or incompatibility in general. But even those two reasons seem far fetched because his previous coach is joining him and well, he doesn't seem bo be compatible with TJV anymore.

That's why I fail to see how it's lose-lose-lose. If I wasn't wise enough to know better, I would have thought all of this is just some sort of BS platform to be able to say: He's done :)

Everyone wins by the efforts of their team as well. These sort of scenarios can't cover the complexity of a situation. For instance - if TJV did not set that hard of a tempo on the beginning of Bondone, would Roglic still have a problem later on? If G didn't have Tao by his side, would he still have come together with Roglic on stage 8?

Of course Roglic needs a good team to win a GT. Only a fool would think otherwise. He does not need a top team to win though. Or to come back to where I came from: Bora should be good enough for Roglic to win another GT.

Yeah, so Pogi crashes and Remco wins. Pogi is recovering and blows at the Tour. Roglic wins the Giro and some forons suggest it was all his team's contribution. He should have won the Vuelta and his team did f*ck all to contribute to his success while he played domestique.
Ill Lombardia was a 250km crampfest and he committed the sin of allowing Pogacar some slack before the downhill. The chasers weren't collaborating so the outcome was the strongest guy on the day won. Hardly a string of results that preclude a Roglic win in a Tour.
That said; anyone that wins the Tour with all major combatants there will need good prep, good luck, great tactics and a team that will back them up. Vingegaard has had Roglic to help him for his Tour wins however you want to grade that help. He doesn't now.
What ifs apply to every rider. All of them.

OK. So lets have them all line up and do a street sprint, a 100km flat TT and a 100km rolling hill stage all in one day. That'll satisfy the Remco fans on one stage, Pogacar and Roglic on another and everyone for one stage. It'd also satisfy the curmugeons that think all GTs are stale and boring.
Then we could debate who would win that carnival of racing; and most would still be guessing.

Vingegaard will never be alone with these guys, because if guys like almeida and hindley are in the gc group, then sepp kuss, kelderman or jorgenson(if he continues to progress) will also be there.
Vingegaard will be alone or just with pogacar after his attack.

Since Kelderman did so well this year and Kuss got worked over by UAE on some stages as well.

Not much faith from the betting markets in Primoz right now.

...Team boss Ralph Denk has said that despite the signing of a superstar like Roglic, Bora could possibly start with a double lead in grand tours...

Q:What does the transfer mean for the previous captains at Bora, do they now have to take a back seat?
A: It's now a matter of finding good solutions for each individual, that's clear.

#FreeRoglic
