Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

I think the worst thing about the way Roglic rides is the group at the finish could be like today or bottom of the barrel riders, and Roglic would still ride the same more often than not. This makes it hard to see his true level.

Compared to last year though I think he looks a lot better currently in the week races.

If Roglic had more in the tank he should do that, because it could be important for him to test or "simulate" the style of race/ way the Tour has been raced in the last 2 years.

He should push himself everyday to the limit, to test himself, check his power numbers and see if he can go full gas everyday, and put minutes in this competition.

There will be no trains or defensive cycling in the Tour with Pogacar and Vingegaard there. Looking at the gaps, day and day out Vingegaard and Pogacar will be 2/3 minutes at the front against this competition Roglic had, so it could be interesting Roglic trying something similar, to "simulate" the conditions of the way the Tour will be raced, and see where it takes for him.

The way they raced today and yesterday, by Roglic and Bora, will not work when the other two go full gas. There's no place to hide.
This is what passes for informed strategy leading up to a Tour?
All of these riders can test limits at points in any stage to know where they stand and where they should perform in the next stage and the next. That's information you keep to yourself in a race like this that is a prep race. Yes, it's a prep race where he can gauge how to improve the necessary efforts to deal with Pogacar. Remco still will provide some race power but isn't going to magically climb better and Vingo....if he's there it's because he'll be a sponsor/press greeter.
Pogacar cakewalked through the last race because his competition capitulated at every stage. Why? Because Majka had already set tempo that had them seeing red on their computers and all Tadej did was up the pace and stroll away. He seldom had to "simulate" a max effort and shouldn't. They were already covering their podium places before stage 1 rollout.
Roglic has won enough to know you don't show what you don't need to show.
It's what you don't know that keeps coming back into your self confirming conversation as a basis to critique his prep.

Just watch the last stage since you're likely hoping it confirms what you want.

And that's one of his strengths. He doesn't overestimate himself or underestimate his opponents.

On the opposite end of the spectrum there's riders (plenty of names i.e. take your pick) who're good enough to do a Hollywood style solo to the line in a lesser field but they then make the obvious mistake of repeating that against better riders... & it fails entirely.

To be honest though this Dauphiné is a pretty stacked field. Carlos Rodriguez isn't suddenly a scrub & Jorgenson is Visma's brand new toy who won Paris-Nice & a spring classic.

Yesterday's finish was also a bit spicier than some people think because of 'who' he sprinted against at the end (i.e. not just Jorgenson... but Grischa Niermann in the Visma car, aka a DS who knows Rog inside out & will have told Jorgenson exactly when to go for it).

And some people wonder why Rog has so many fans? Haha.

It's all about the drama. Only Primož Roglič can deliver this sort of near GC tragedy... authentically.

What happened? Crashes this year affecting him? Bad prep?

Maybe the weather & clothing (cold to hot), maybe the crashes, maybe he's just not quite ready.

Like when Simon Yates almost beat him in Paris-Nice 2 years ago? The entire Bora team exploded FYI.

The postman doesn't work to impress you. The postman doesn't deviate from his usual path just to excite you. The postman doesn't care at what time he arrives even if he's a bit late (+0:48). All the postman ever wants to do is to deliver and today that's what he did. Nothing more and nothing less.
The postman even waited to become a GT winner until after the Dawg left the stage.

Think about that

Somebody above mentioned 'bittersweet victory', i.e. are you kidding? This was one of the sweetest wins yet.

I imagine Grischa Niermann screaming in the Visma car... & then that crushing disappointment! Ha.

And the people who're saying "no way Rog can beat Pog!" were saying the same thing yesterday & would have said the same thing even if Rog had gone solo to the stage win today.

Not bad, eh?
