I feel like he is transitioning into the pre-retirement PR strategy infamously rendered popular by Froome.

" I'm ready to win, Im in top shape " while everyone in his team knows he is not

But Roglič hasn‘t said that recently? Then he hasn‘t started his PR strategy yet I guess.

I guess we'll see. If he comes into form and has really worked on his long climbing, top 5 or top 3 is not completely unrealistic. I think it's more likely that he gets crushed, to be honest. There are legitimate reasons why it would be the case, but you'd need some very rose tinted glasses to not see that his form is miles off from what it has been in recent GT's he has won. The best hope is for a 202 Vuelta style recovery, but even then he won a punchy stage in the first week. Here he is nowhere close.

Hopefully, but losing 20 secs is not only a lack of punch, his legs are just not there.

If he doesn't improve he is going to lose minutes on Evenepoel and Jorgensson.
5th place is the most realistic at this point.

His PR strategy is literally the anti-Froome.

Thank goodness.

I think top 3 is completely unrealistic.

I've adopted the Rogla philosophy here.

I no longer give a ****.

I'm happy he escaped that nasty crash though.

top 5 is a lock, he wasn't that bad compared to the non-freak GC riders. wont get anywhere near the top 2 but we already knew that. Remco will probably explode on one of the mountain stages too so 3rd is still possible.

I said when he left the Giro that he should not go to the Tour. What is he doing? I hate to see a rider of his calibre wasting his time.
I think the TdF is the sponsor obligation.

Plus, I honestly wouldn't even be that surprised if he Pogacar told him he would race the Vuelta.

Roggo is just getting the Ks in the legs, looking to address the power imbalance between legs after injuries and will use this to get back into the rhythm of racing.

I don‘t know, he was literally THE worst GC rider who wasn‘t held up by the crash and wasn‘t dropped before the last climb.

Come on now. I expect a healthy and fully fit Roglic to podium the Vuelta with Jonas and Tadej comfortably.
I don't think he is over the hill yet.
Some posters here even said that the team wanted him to do a Giro-Vuelta double but he insisted on doing the Tour.
Not sure about that.

Yeah we don't really know. Actually most likely they committed to the Tour already and along the way they just found out the legs were really not going and it's kinda too late to pull out now.

But the fact that Pogacar and Vingegaard both appear to be scheduled for the Vuelta makes me a lot less mad about the scheduling. Going to the Giro was the real shot and that got Lucas Hamilton'd.

If everything goes right (big if) I still think he can win the race for 3rd . It's not likely but it is very much possible.

These punchy stages with chaos are very different to hard climbs in the last part of the race which is where the real difference is. I saw geighen hart win a giro after losing 4 minutes on etna alone

That being said it also wouldn't be surprised me if he was dropped hard on the first proper mountain stage and didn't finish in the top 10

yeah people never learn their lesson taking punchy hill first week stages and extrapolating the results to the high mountains. it's almost always a completely different race once the real mountains start. if he was truly in terrible form he would be dropping minutes on these stages.

He looked good in the first passage but again without any punch in the last climb, it´s like he is forbidden to go over 500w, I suppose it´s just bad legs but is weird.

Maybe a spacetime distortion forms at 555 watts and they don't want Rogla to end up in the Stone Age.
