Why didn't he work with Nibali?
I hate it when riders sit on wheel the entire time, then overtake with 30 meters to go to secure a 7th or so place.

I think he was hanging on for dear life. Being more of a one week racer so far, he was never tested over such long climbs and over a span of many days, so I'm surprised he hung on at all, very good performance I think.
You're missing my point. I don't blame people for hanging on, I find it cheap to 'hang on', but then sprint at the end for a minor placing. It feels a bit cheap (if you can still sprint, you could also have collaborated at least a bit earlier on).

Can't blame him

Even when he does nothing, his TT ability can add suspense to races just because he's there. Dumoulin and Roglic add thst at least, Froome is no longer the best ITTer of the GC men, although I hadn't anticipated Dumoulin becoming one of the best climbers as well

Nah, that was literally a 20m sprint, hardly a marker that he could've contributed with Nibali. And he didn't drop Nibali with that. It actually benefited the both of them, since Nibali might have gained an extra second because he gets s.t. with Roglic (not that it matters anymore).

His interviews are so funny. It seems like he's a bit puzzled that the others are not that easy to beat. Of course, he hasn't been used to being beaten so far this year, though.

I don't think he's the only one puzzled by being beat by Sky time and time again.

I don't see why such a comment is remotely relevant here.

I think it was just a quip. Maybe doesn't translate too well on a multinational message board...

..anyway, I can't help wonder what might have been if Kruijswijk (whose name I will NEVER be able to spell) and Roglic had teamed up on the Alpe -- assuming K had never attacked. Of course it would have likely been even more of a Sky dominance, but I'm happy to see that both riders had great legs. Roglic may not be at Sky level yet but the potential is there. Plus he's tough.

If he feels alright he should do an all out attack from the bottom of the climb like he did in Pais Vasco. I wonder if his team will want to take control of the race tomorrow and bring the break back. I'm not sure they'll manage on their own though, they'll need help from some other teams.

Wow that was just raw power today up that climb. Kudos.

This is what I was talking about, this is what I've expected. Too bad the attack didn't materialised in a stage win. I think his team should've at least tried to keep the race somewhat close and try to bring the break back at some point. They looked pretty strong in the finale. I don't know...I think they should have known by now that Rogla is arguably the best in the World right now on these type of climbs. Oh well, now they know.

I think he still has his chances for the overall win. Nobody is really considering him because of the unknown of his 3rd week recovery. But I think he showed glimpses of good recovery in the past. I'm really excited to see what he can do next. It'd be amazing if somehow the GC before the ITT is something like:
1. Froome
2. Thomas at 10s
3. Roglič at 15s
4. Dumoulin at 30s

Who would win in this situation? :D :D :D

Probably Roglic.

This has to be the best Rabo team in years, stage wins, 2 guys in the top 10 and great attacks.
I'm gonna cheer for them and Dumoulin durning the rest of the Tour (and Landa, of course), Roglič on the final podium would be awesome.

I estimate Dumoulin will be ~30 sec better in the coming ITT than all of the other 3. Don't forget, Dumoulin won the 2017 ITT WC on a similar course be almost a minute ahead of Roglic and more than a minute ahead of a tired Froome.

Gotta love his mentality. He is for the first time in a similar position, standing in 4th after the second rest day and yet he says that he will try again because he has nothing to lose. I just love it  Of course first we have to see how the legs respond in the third week but he says he feels alright. The tiredness is there sure, but nothing alarming.

It'd be great if he takes 15-20 seconds back today. I read there's a realistic chance of thunderstorms in the area around Col du Portillon in the afternoon. That's good news for Roglic, at least the heat wont be that intense and also there could be gaps on the descent if the road is wet.

He said in an interview for Slovenian TV right after the stage that he tried to make the race a bit more interesting :D

The other important thing was that he said he felt much better today that he did in the Alps, which bodes very well for friday and especially Saturdays TT, where he will surely be targeting the stage win and the overall podium. Maybe Kruiswijk taught him a thing or two about third week recovery :)
