I think he is still not in his best climbing shape and they just want to limit the losses before the rest day. I hope I am wrong and Rogla will attack tomorrow with TJV support ;)

Looking much better today, hopefully that was just a day off. I’m still a bit worried by the form of his team. Maybe that’s why they weren’t pacing? Gesink being the best of them at finish doesn’t feel right...
Also, a little disappointed that neither Ineos nor Movistar tried to put more pressure on Quickstep. Definitely expected more from our "partners in crime".

P.S. Wait, was that some mistake in data? I could swear I saw Gesink’s name somewhere in the top-10 (was quite surprised, frankly) and now he disappeared!

Today was a relief after yesterday. He just needs to get back in race shape. 10 days of prep isn't optimal to come into a GT and Remco is Strong. I hope both he and his team find their mojo. To me the Team is very disappointing, especially Sepp :( He is So Inconsistent, either great or nowhere :(. Rest well Primoz tomorrow hopefully you can do more than follow!

Chris Harper was the best teammate today & the last one with Rog.

Tbh I expect all of them to get better (like last year), including Roglič. I think Red Rick is half right, i.e. I don't think he's feeling good at all. But I suspect they envisaged this scenario because of how totally undercooked he came into this race. It's what comes next that's important.

Ergo survive this weekend, limit the losses in the ITT & then see what's possible.

The team doesn't look great right now, even though they started with a bang in the TTT. Sometimes Kuss is better in the back half of grand tours. Is it possible that they are saving some powder? Or are they just disappointing? Not sure. ... As mentioned above, Roglic's form (or lack of) may be driving things. Can he come around next week and in week 3? Hoping. He does look good for a podium placing.

Roglic doesn't seem to be that bad, the W/kg he pushes is inline with what he pushed before, just that there are now few guys pushing more at this point in time in the Vuelta.

Even on stage 6 his W/kg are not far off what he normally does for 30minutes efforts (+6W/kg) and today seem to be inline with his normal best performances. (6.3-6.4W/kg) for this duration (don't know his drag advantage though, but still).

But still you could see he was hurting doing it!

Stage 6 was really low. Today was good but he's done more.

Estimates for stage 6 varied super wildly though

Sure, but Roglic strength isn't especially the long climbs, but the sprints on (steep) climbs. And that he still has. He is just missing a % to also do that sprint at the end of todays stage. Might come when he is fresher then the competition later in the vuelta.

Normally stage 9 should again suite him very well.

Good to see him bouncing back and to be there with the best on stage 8. Rather smart riding today. Not spending team too much. Just hanging on and still gaining in regards to other favorites.

It shows Evenepoel and his team trained hard for this race during the past couple of months. And all the details he is investing in it do indeed show daily. Roglič on the other hand wasn't in that bad form but still was severely injured, made babies and trained for real for about two weeks.

After today's performance i feel that Roglič is starting to take a hold of this race. Tomorrow is big day. JV likely taking more initiative. Neutralizing Alaphilippe. Kuss to be there.

And hopefully a little bit of Roglstomp in our lives.

Kuss down to Covid19 :/

Rogla just can't catch a break...

Primoz will struggle without Wout, Jonas, or Sepp in the race to bail him out. He's needed both Wout and Jonas to power him to wins on the last stage of two week long races this year.

Kuss for sure would be one of Rogličes key domestiques. But i guess this is GT racing and you can't do much about it. Initial plan for today likely still at play. Maybe now even more so. As the race unfolds JV will have to take this into consideration. As they are now rather exposed on stages where Kuss would be invaluable. Likely a whole lot of isolation and mano-a-mano fighting for Rogla ahead. At least they are still rather strong in regards to wearing the opponents down. Prior to the finale. On some crucial stages. All in all for sure a tough Vuetla edition ahead for Rogla. But if anybody he can do it.

But such outcome i guess is something Rogla will need to take into consideration. In season 2023 it could happen JV will force Jonas and hence cyclists like Kuss will play more of a support role over there. The golden age of Kuss fanboy clubs (both spectrum) might hence be over. A lot of tough decision during the off season to be made.

On the bright side. From Vuelta point of view this won't be the first edition where Rogla will be rather easy to isolate and on top of that a lot of mano-a-mano fighting involved. He is rather used to that by now.
