Tour as a stage race indeed is a tough cookie for Rogla. In past four years achieving nothing, on where at minimum, if finishing, Rogla likely to podium each year. Said that and luckily Rogla is a a tough cookie too, i am sure that desired results at the Tour are still to come.

Tough times for Rog. I heard rumours he is thinking about ending his career... hope that's not true.

That would suck, not a good way to go out.
I hope he'll be back in shape for the Vuelta, should usually have a pretty good shot at it. Also Martinez and Lipowitz should make for good support in the mountains (if the latter lives up to his promise)

I'll admit that thought had crossed my mind since the crash (without any info either).

The whole reason he left Jumbo & went to Bora was for the Tour. It was his motivation.

Zeeman even tried to talk him out of the Tour two years ago but Rog didn't want to hear it. So I don't think it's a stretch to imagine this is probably a sort of pivotal moment in his career.

He cant compete with Pog or Vinge. After this Tour you have to include Remco as well.

They are too good now and arguably has been for at least the past two years (2023-2024).

2022, he maybe could have hanged with them (Pog and Vinge).

Now it is over.

Whats the talk? Will he do the Vuelta now this season?

Next year he probably should do Giro+Vuelta. Then maybe retire. His contract will be up and he will be 36.

And if Remco going to RB, he will do Tour. Unless PL stands on business and says you have contract with me. We will see, I guess.

It's easy to see how he could lack motivation. 2020 should have been his Tour. But at 35 soon and the current crop of younger riders of immense talent out there the Tour might end up being the one hole in his palmares. The one that he cannot conquer.
Primoz Please do the Vuelta and win it so you can go out in glory.

Denk said he's back on the rollers but not out on the road yet. Aldag a couple of days ago spoke about how Rog's "eyes still light up when we talk about the race".

Beyond that, I have no idea. All I can pretty much guess to a 100% degree of accuracy is this rider won't stick around in pro-cycling just to collect a paycheck ala Froome if he can't win anymore or has no motivation to continue.

The man is a serial winner.

I'd be fine if he never started the Tour again. That shouldnt be his white whale

I agree.

Fighting those aliens in other GT's has got to be a more approachable prospect anyway due to those riders aiming for peak form in July.

He can still do any race he wants really, just not as a GC guy. He can be a stage hunter like Carapaz, etc.

I don't think that's his style.

Totally agree! He's in it to win it!

My favorite rider for his resilience and courage. That time trial in last year's Giro might have been the pinnacle for me as a fan. Time takes its inevitable toll. If he quietly retired now, I'd have no problem with it. He's set financially, and he's got a wonderful family. Great times ahead in the bigger arena of life.

No, you don’t. Roglic didn’t look great on the first few stages but stated he had prepared for the final week. On stage 11, he seemed to be as strong (or stronger) than Remco. No way to know what could have been, but I certainly am not prepared to say that there was no way Roglic could have finished within 8 minutes of Pog.

He was struggling a lot and blew up.

I don’t think he will have a chance against Remco from now on.

It's been like that for years, now, some people advising Rogla he is too old and who he can't beat any more. Then they actually race and such BS gets called out. So what this is now, it's just the usual pettiness and gloating, by some.

Of course Rogla will race and win again.
If you are refering to me I have always backed Rogla, especially against Remco up until now.

I think he has been surpassed in context of being able to challenge the others in GTs. Don’t agree, cool.

@Salvarani

No, not directly at you, of course, directed in general and towards the mob, sharing a similar sentiment, one way or another. I seen a couple of such sentiments in this thread emerging again, lately. So not to address each better to just say it like it is in general. I agree that everyone can have their own opinion. Said that and in general of course i don't agree with this ongoing mob sentiment, pure crap if you ask me. Get a life any pay some respect. After all Rogla already on rollers and currently still in pain, to beat the supposedly untouchable divas in future races to come. Instead of what some of you seem to suggest. Resting on a couch and smooching balls. Pure and utter bollocks.

Anyway.

Why all this gloom and doom?

I'm the first to be frustrated and disappointed, this season has been *** and I'm really nervous about Bora deciding that they shouldn't put all their eggs in his basket for next year's TDF, but Hindley was *** for no reason (Denk admitted as much in the Tour podcast) and Vlasov is never going to be strong enough to pose a real threat so it's not as if they sacrificed their chances for nothing... both secondary leaders were never going to be serious contenders against UAE domestiques and next year it'll be worse when VLAB brings all the guns.
Bora are in for a nasty surprise if they think they can just buy a new team (and even a new leader) for next year and it will work right away. It takes time and commitment and also blood and tears and they have the right guy for the job until he cannot continue any longer and/or a new leader emerges in the team and proves to be better. That's his motivation as well.

And c'mon... the guy is not a quitter, stop pretending that he's suddenly considering ending his career due to a setback. Yes, this was a really hard blow, one of the worst he's had, but I find it very hard to believe that he really thought he'd be fighting for victory so whatever he'd been able to achieve this year he can still come back next year to try to settle the score.
He's said over and over again that he wants to give his best shot, and while his best will probably be worse and worse every year he's still facing absolute aliens so he has to know that he'll never be able to reach that level so it's not about them but about him being motivated enough to give the Tour his full focus. It's not the end for him by any means, he still has a chance as long as he wants to give it a try.

Training indoors only?

Were gonna need the exact timelines of 21, 22 and 24 to compare here

I'd say this is similar to '22 timeline and injury wise so we shouldn't be very hopeful that he'll be in Lisbon in little less than a month, BUT

1. he didn't race injured (we don't really know about the extent of the Dauphiné injury though) so that's a huge, huge improvement already and will surely work on his favor if there's a chance he can make it to the Vuelta start
2. the team is obviously invested in his health so they are doing whatever they can to help him get back on track (but won't let him race if he's not 100% which will be frustrating for us but the best option in the long run)
3. instead of hiding at home and thinking about quitting like some believe, he's already training which leads me to believe that he wants to turn the page and get ready for the new goals

WIth Remco coming to Red Bull too now and going out like this, he didnt deserve that.

I think its over and if he continues it wont be in the same level from next year, more to get paid kinda thing and thats the motivation and thereby the racing aswell but I sincerely hope Im wrong!

Any source?

Rogla rehabilitating at Red Bull centre in Salzburg. No news yet in regards to Olympics, as it looks like not even Pogi is a sure thing, so the final decision about selection likely to be prolonged for a day or two.

P.S. Picture emerged, Rogla being amused by all the comments in regards to his age and Remco joining him in the 2025 season.
