Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

If there's one thing people should know by now is Rog doesn't like a fight for position in a large group going into a very short effort. For that he needs to be placed properly at the front of the bunch and be riding against rivals who aren't better than him in those conditions. Yesterday was no such day. I emphasise the size of the group here because it matters. He loses wheels and either gets bullied or just doesn't react and let's the race come back together on its own.

There's many examples here, like stage 3 of last year's Dauphiné when Derek Gee just casually beat a totally passive Rog (who finished 10th) on a short punchy climb and everyone screamed "washed". A few days later he was mountain sprinting like Valverde's twin in a normal Alpine stage.
On the roundabout before the second to last climb he lost about 4 bike lengths to Pog (he was on Pog's wheel as they were approaching the roundabout). That equates to about 20 positions or even more. It is hard to be up there at the end of such a climb if you start so far back. The good thing is that he looked fine on the last climb.

His stuntman career is in decline.
He did spend some time heading to the finish checking on Remco. Wonder if that might be the beginning of a RBH recruitment charm offensive and collaborative breakaway strategy. May as well combine the strengths of two teams to take on the Double Headed Dragon for the podium. Wouldn't that be an amazing podium if those guys both made it?

So two team members taking a hit, not a good outcome for stage 3. As for stage 4, from GC point of view i don't feel it's that important stage, but there is more to it. Pogi highly likely plans to go all out and to take stage win, yellow and 100th career win, Jonas obviously invited to the party, Remco hard to say, due to the crash. Rogla, penultimate climb is his terrain, unfortunately not a MTF. Anyway, staying with the best or winning the stage, that would be good for morale. Especially if at least one team member at his side and one waiting up front.

Yeah if he loses the Tour to Pogacar he definitely lost it because of the first 4 days. Never know how much positioning issues caused underperformance today.

We'll have to see the ITT tomorrow.
Well he didn't say that, but it is a lot of time for a caliber like Roglic. You can add stage 2 where he potentially could have lost time again, but it came back together.

He ain't looking strong at all, and I very much doubt he has the watts necessary tomomrrow.

I think he‘ll do a good time trial, he could probably do that without legs. But he won‘t look good on Stage 10.

Several things can be true at the same time, i.e. he can struggle on punchy profiles and short steep climbs right now (which means he's going to suffer a lot before next week), but that doesn't mean he can't climb later as third best climber or thereabouts on Hautacam and the real cols.

His team is just awful. I doubt they are anything close to visma in terms of preparation and getting him/his support to the right level. If he was serious about the tour GC a proper team would never send him to the giro.

I think the plan was that a Giro win is better than no Giro win and a Top 3 could still be possible in the Tour.
But the teams level the entire year has been pretty meh.
Today they didn't have a single domestique finish in the Top 50.
So whatever prep they are doing, it ain't working.
