There is still two Tour de France Champions to be picked.

91-95 taken 1
96 - taken 6
97- taken 3
98 taken 5
99-2005 taken 2
2006 taken 16 (wow that's lower than I would have)
2007 taken 4
2008 taken 59
2009-2010 taken 4
2011 taken 44
2012 taken 36
2013 taken 12
2014 taken 32

90 is what I referee to as the can of worms.

If '90 was doped, the Wonderboy clan would have exposed it. I'm not too sure about anything, but I would bet a dollar on that. Hope I'm not wrong (again), but quite confident. And there's no love there. I met Jock in Paris in '94, and when he introduced himself saying "I'm a former cycling pro" I replied "you must hate him". Too many people look at tapes knowing the outcome, but if he didn't bridge the gap to the guy in the middle, Beppe would have ended up with the same face he had on the podium the year before. Another thread...another subject...

I choose the best Colombian cyclist of the nineties, Oliverio el matador Rincon, for my team. His nickname was because of a famous torero who was also named Rincon. He wasn't around for long but in just a few short years in Europe he claimed impressive stage victories in all three grand tours. In the 1995 Giro d'Italia he was also fifth overall after four of the most hardcore cyclists drafted early and won a stage to Val Senales, and he also got three top tens in the Vuelta, 4th, 5th and 10th. He is from Boyacá and wanted badly to do well in the World Championships 1995 in his home town Duitama but the race was just too long and he couldn't follow Olano, Indurain and Pantani on the last lap. Rincon was amazing in high mountains and had the necessary endurance for three week races.

So my choice #7 is Oliverio Rincon Quintana in the GdI 1995.

With the 2nd pick of Round 7 and 62nd pick overall, team "La Vie Pas Claire" is selecting (drum roll):

Santiago Botero '02 TdF. After a good prologue and a horrendous TTT when he couldn't pull his weak Kelme team fast enough, Santiago won the 52km ITT Stage 9, beating Wonderboy in the process. After a couple of inconsistent performances, Santiago found himself 18th in the overall standings entering the final week. In the Alps, Santiago Botero put together a string a superb performances including a stage win, and Vinoed his way up the standings, finishing 4th in Paris. Later on that year, Botero won the ITT World Championship.

Obviously, he'll be instrumental for the TTT. Excellent climber on a good day, he can push the pace real hard for my leader in the mountains as well.

Outstanding Libertine Seguros. I keep being wrong: I thought you would have Olano before I could (get BigMig and MiniMig), and this time again I "misguessed" your intentions. You're a great DS. I won't show my cards, I'm really bad at hints that are not obvious, but if ciranda doesn't beat me to him, I know who I'm going to get and you'll like the pick :)
I wanted Olano, kept talking myself out of him though until it was too late. Like Beloki, the lack of one particular super year made it hard for me to choose. I like the Botero pick though, I had him on my shortlist for pick 60 because of his TT prowess.

Like it or not, 2006 hasn't been taken.
I'm not saying Flandis didn't deserve his title stripped or anything. If this was the pro race section you would have a point.

But this is the doping draft thread. We are picking riders based on who was the most physically dominant with the most drugs. Surely in this context if no other, you can see why I am ignoring the argument over who did what when and taking the person who actually stood a top the podium as the champion?

Well, there's only one who can take that last member of the trio away from you... however they owe you vengeance for taking out Basso earlier.

My biggest problems with this game are that Zam's team isn't led by Ivan Basso like it damn well should be, and that the AITORMINATOR© was gone before I could pick him.

Regrets :(

Er... I just picked Melcior freaking Mauri. It's about what fits the team. You drafted 10th, so you missed out on a lot of the bonanza leaders, like Indurain, Armstrong, '96 Riis or '97 Ullrich. Therefore your goals can shift. With Vandenbroucke you have arguably the most dangerous stagehunter in the race and certainly one of the most versatile, plus you have somebody who could be considered arguably among the best wallriders ever, but certainly of recent generations. By contrast, I got the first pick of the draft and got Big Mig, so now I have to think about who's available who can help control the race for two weeks since the aim will be to take the lead in the first big ITT and then manage the likes of Pantani and Robobasso.

I understand the argument. The fact is the offical 2006 winner is not Landis, ignoring that is just being in total denial of reality.

I think I let the rules down by not always choosing the cyclist w the craziest performance available.

By the way there's a really out there freak from 1996 still undrafted.

I have two candidates but considering I know very little I am not sure which one you mean, or perhaps I am totally wrong. I will not be drafting either of them.

There were some super mutant performances by a rider in both the '93 and '95 Tours that I'm surprised no one has picked up on. He would make a great addition to the best doped team of all time, especially at this time in the draft.

As a neutral observer, I have to disagree with your personal assessment. I think some of your picks are brilliant.

However there could be some bias in my critique. When the drafted started I picked my own team and you selected a number of riders I also tabbed.

Agreed. I'm definitely pulling for Ciranda's team so far. I'm hoping Ciranda picks the next rider I have in mind. The guy is sticking out there like a sore thumb (or a blatantly obvious big-time doper).
