On closer inspection, just find out where the host team would be if it managed to get to the knockout round. FIFA surely has to change the original plan to get another African team in the 1/4-finals.

easy
do the following

group a
Cote d ivoire
nigeria
ghana
new zealand

group b
south africa
cameroon
algeria
australia

2 african teams in 1/4 final?
done

Haha, Youri Mulder (Dutch tv analyst) speaking some words of truth about the current English squad. "Those guys can't play football. I don't care how much money they make, they can't play football."

England is totally uncreative. No ideas whatsoever.

Algeria are resisting the European 'superpower' like its 1958

Fabio Capello is a De Gaulle wanabee.

Watching "battle of algiers" could have been a good inspiration. Then again i sincerely doubt the algeria players have the iq to understand it. And most of them played for france at u21 level so it would give them conflicting feelings.

I wish. But i knew the second the ref disallowed the US goal against Slovenia that i would roo it. England only have to beat Slovenia more than US beat Algeria to TOP  the group

Thats right TOP:confused: the group

Every single team in this tournamet, even those who won their opening matches would take such a scenario in a heartbeat.

I was thinking of that throughout this game.

Why the **** isn't Joe Cole coming on at all? He should be starting. The passing and inability to keep the ball was totally awful.

James
Johnson, Terry, Upson, Cole
Barry
Lennon, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole
Rooney?

Embarrased! I know I'm biased but England need decent wingers, milner and Ashley young are those players. Rooneys comments to camera were disgraceful, some fans have spent all savings just to go out there

Still can't really understand how these players have just stopped playing well together. They've never played this badly under Capello. Weird stuff.

Absolutely bang on - and then they have the gall to do a whole routine in the build up programme saying how unlucky England is.

no this is one of the few times teamskyfans ain't bang on.

rooney's wages are paid by fans of mufc - not some jester hat wearing, face painted england fans who boo their own. he plays for england for free

hah, how nice it was to see serbia win against strong team, finally. i think we haven't beaten anyone strong since italy '90. except czech republic in '97, in a qualifications.

now, of couse, we will lose to australia, conceeding one more idiotic penalty.

as for england - i cannot believe that capello can't get them to play better. i consider him best coach of all times, but from what i've seen on WC so far, england is really below expactations. there is still one game in group, and england's situation could turn around quickly, but if they play like they played against algeria, i am not sure they can win against slovenia. 0:0 seems like most likely result.

generally, i think some non-european team will win it, even though spain is strongest on paper. maybe argentina, finally, despite maradona.

Actually booing your own country is disgraceful but being a Pom that eludes your mind. Sure be critical after the game but don't abuse a team when it is down. Show some F%*King respect. The attitudes of many sporting nations fans across the globe are disgraceful...it is all about me, me and then me some more. Grow up. Any Aussie fan booing our own countries sportsmen/women will rightly be savaged. Criticism when warranted is fine, often it is needed, but as a bare minimum a decorum of deceny and sportsmanship needs to be upheld. Just like the South African fans deserting their second game. Pathetic. Those people are not fans. You never desert your team when they lose. There are some lines one never crosses. Booing is one of them. Sure keep it real, but vocal outbursts that are unsavoury do nothing more than reveal disgusting attitudes. Did you not see the look on Gerrard's face? He was devastated. Maybe you'd like me to reflect further on the British public psyche and their loser mentality?

I'll probably get a response to this. I already have an idea of what subset of sporting nations forumists this will come from. You'll cope one back as well and I do have examples to back my points up. Be warned. Simple point, your team may suck and you can say why, but being bad sports is never ever cool.

i thought england were suppose to be a soccer nation?

Difference is we Aussies will be realists (exclude you and Cadel) about our sporting abilities. We'll comment when things that should be in place aren't but still cheer regardless and commend and give credit where it is due. The English won't always do this. They have an over developed idea of self importance. Sadly given their natural football talents, it isn't unfounded in the least. Look at their random implosions over the last 20 years in football and cricket. They turn on their own. You know dude, the old jokes Aussies have ripped on the poms for generations about them having a losing mentality. That is what is on offer now. They'll savage Gerrard, Rooney and Capello in the press and act like bad sports when in the stands cheering. A lot will go too far. Truth is all they need to do is refocus and inject a portion of positivity and enthusiasm into their game. It really is that simple. Maybe it's the weather in the UK that upsets them. Constantly miserable, attitude reflects that.

Take it this way. Our nations Captain, Lucas Neill, just yesterday said our players were motivated to beat Ghanan by fear! Fear is a negative emotion. What happens when that fear finds a foothold? Psychology 101, it is not good. One bad turn in a game, which can unfortunately happen (ask Spain and England) and it creeps into the mind. People start changing their behaviour for the worse. This is what leadership groups need to avoid in any environment, especially a sporting scene. Positivity trumps everything. Good example: Argentina at this world cup. I thought Maradonna would be bad...he isn't, the team is very positive and simply believe in their method. A methodology that has been critiqued. It's working very well. I guess what I'm hinting at is being very self aware and positive at all times.
