Why are you so eager to see Spain out?

a lot of little things. Here is a brief list

They are easily the best team here so i want to see someone else win.

I like Spain as a country a lot, i read their newspapers, i know people there. If they win the world cup their players will be treated like Gods for the rest of their lives and i dont like hero worship. Teams like Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Germany, win the world cup a lot so its not as big a deal there to be a player who has won it. But living in England i know just what having solitary world cup is. The hype and nostalgia for 1966 is such that 15% of kids in this country think adolf hitler was the german manager in the final. True story. I will like Spain more without the hero worship.

Also i do not like what Casillias and Iniesta said (which i mentioned earlier) about the players deserving huge bonuses and Casillias's claim to have members of his family suffering from the reccesion when he gets £150 000 a week. so hes either lying or worse telling the truth and admiting to being to selfish to help out his family when he has means.

and part of it is a bit of putting my mind to rest. I was very good at football as a child and part of me thinks i could have made it had i tried it out at a football academy. I console myself with the fact that with my small stature it would have been difficult for me succeed.
Yet here is this Spain side, and half their players are my size (170cm). I want them to lose so that i can keep consoling myself with

I dont like Liverpool so i dont like Torres and all the other Spanish players they have. He made my choice easy with some of his antics this season.

and most of all hate is often as good as love. Some of my best moments in football have been teams i dont like, losing. England portugal 2004 springs to mind. epic. Because there are no players that i know of who i deem to have deserved my respect, i pick teams before the tournament who i dont want to win rather than those i do (their all self centred millionares at the end of the day really). For many years i supported Spain but they dissapointed. This year i chose Spain and England as teams i dont want to win and will enjoy their eventual defeats should they occur.

Good points, except Brazil is the better of the two teams, in terms of quality of the team, and in their performances so far.

I for one have always been clear that I feel Brazil is superior.

Critical Mass reached!

Certain French players are saying they might refuse to play vs. South Africa tomorrow. No news yet on who it may be specifically, although Captain Patrice Evra resfused to attend a press conference this evening.

This = so sweet.

Ive seen this as a possibility since the Anelka row. could mean that South africa get a win and only need the right result from Mexico Uruguay to keep the streak. Would be major anti climax if they did draw nocking rsa out. Then again would be real surprise if Rsa did make it and no other african team did,(a possibility) making South africa the only african team in the last 16.

would be really funny if only say 10 players turned up. i wonder what would happen then.

I always saw casillias as the best in the world But hes been making the same mistake lately. He slid with his feet for the swiss goal. He made a similar but worse mistake against ac Milan in the cl and now hes done it again (though with no consequences this time)

How disgustingly good is Barça going to be next year? Villa is already signed, and Fabregas will soon follow. Its just not going to be fair.

OMG what has happened to torres. His first touch is often poor. Hes missing chances left right and centre.

Real would've been a lot better if they'd just kept Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder... Although Robben wouldn't have fit particularly well into the formation Pellegrini seemed to favor last year.

But Barça has always been a better and more balanced team, Villa adds some fire up front that Ibrahimovic, for all his technical ability, does not seem to have. Fabregas adds more balance and offensive flair, and can also serve as the long-term replacement for Xavi, who will turn 31 this coming season.

Well... Let's just say that I disagree with you and Mr. Hitchens on that point.

Nope, not me who ratted you out. I don't have any problem with people who offer critiques of religion, be they well founded or irrational and offensive. I am a Calvinist (Dutch Reformed specifically), with no love of the Catholic Church (who I feel do nothing but give Christianity a bad name), although my faith that has nothing to do with having lived in Geneva. I lived in Geneva because my dad's job with an American company took him, and therefore us, there.

This doesn't seem to be going the way of Chile I'm afraid. If Spain beats them by two goals, and Switzerland wins 1-0 from Honduras, they'll be out.

this match looks over. As one sided a game as we will se all world cup. at least North Korea had some chances. Spains main aim for now should be to avoid injuries.
