Ghana through after a match of very poor quality, like most matches this World cup.

US was a bit better after the first half, but no Ghana certainly didn't steal the game.

Shame for les Americains... Would'veliked to see them through; since they've been exciting so far. But an African team in the quarters is bigger. Ghana-Uruguay looks to be a pretty even match; could be good, could be a snoozefest.

At least it didn't go to penalties. Penalty shootouts digust me, even if they are necessary.

Really hope Germany win tomorrow.

Only the Slovaks can beat the Dutch. If we get past that trap game they can pretty much put our name on the trophy already :p

No actually. I almost never watch the commercial channels. Why? Did they say something similar?

LOL, good luck with Cheque van Gelder. NOS is the most commercial channel around.

VI Oranje is the best show around now. Funny as hell.

Is that the one with Johan Derksen? That dude makes me want to vomit in my own mouth whenever I hear him pontificate. Who else does it?

Well the netherlands havent had too much luck with that so i can understand your position.

But come on, you have to admit those portugal england penalty shootouts were epic (since portugal won, obviously;))

Oh yeah, forgot to say. Its not like I refuse to watch RTL or anything as a matter of principle. I'm not Elco Brinkman ca. 1989 or anything of the sort :p

Have just found in the past that I think the NOS does things a little more to my liking, with sports and news and such, so that's what I watch.

Yes me too.

Whats your reason for opposing the england football team?

The best result will be england losing-on penalties, just to rub it in:D though ill take any result really.

I have the same feeling with van Gelder and Youri Mulder.

On RTL7 you have Derksen, vd Gijp and guests. It makes a little more sense than the lack of opinions and asscrawling at NOS and has more interesting guests (I think I've seen Groenendijk and Huistra at NOS now, no further explanation needed)

NOS' evening show is a snoozefest that shouldn't be on a public channel. And why are they in Africa? It's a studio program.... Public money wasted. I prefer commercial.

Has nothing to do with past losses that the Dutch have suffered at the hands of penalties. I just think it's poor to decide a game based only on offensive properties, when football is both attacking and defending. Penalty kicks are a *******ization of the beautiful game.... That said it is the least horrible option of ending a game, since just having them play on ad infinitum until a golden goal is scored is obviously stupid.

EDIT: Blanked out word is bastard... Should've known they'd censor that.

At 90 minutes take 1 player out from both teams. At 100 minutes another one goes... etc..etc..

Less ridiculous than a shoot-out.

In continuation of a previous discussion

watching the "tomorows front pages" part of the news, out of something like 15 newspapers - 2 had real news. The rest were all "we will stuff the germans" with pictures of rooney, or something similar.

Meh.... That could just slow everything down even more. If anything they should be able to bring on additional players :p:p:p

I think that after the 'E.A.S.Y.' and 'Best English group since the Beatles' they should tone down a little.

its not even offensive properties as much as luck. So often the better team throughout loses on penalties.
But for all the hype, football is at the end of the day merely entertainment. Penalty shootouts are good entertainment.
Having said that play till someone scores would be brilliant. Kind of like tennis matches will go on and on untill someone wins the certain ammount of sets. Maybe they should take off a player each at certain points in extra time to make it easier to score, dont they do that in ice hockey.

ah. seems like im not the only one with that idea. Or they could make the goals bigger after say 120 minutes and keep replacing the goal posts with bigger versions every 10 minutes until someone scores :p

Winning money if Germany win the WC, not liking many of the English players, not being English...

That'd be fun: having them playing for several days as the guys in Wimbledon, and then the winner falls exhausted in the next round :D:D:D

At 90 minutes send the keepers out. That'd be enough :D
