England, Suck it!

I shook my head when I saw that... and then I realized it was The Sun. Of course they'll think that Green's blunder was the only thing that went wrong today. If England's players were aiming for Tim Howard they were right on the mark with most of their shots.

Pretty weak game all around actually. Not very many good scoring chances for either. I thought England looked pretty flat, and that we looked about like we look. I think we should both advance...and then lose.

That's pretty mild for the standards of The Black Hole.... I was fully expecting an "Off With His Head" or something.

Undecided if I will record the Australia and Germany team or keep up and watch. I'm also looking forward to the New Zealand matches in the World Cup. Ok, they are going to get trashed in all their games, but it was a country I was born in and lived for the first 13 and a half years of my life, so I guess I have to cheer for them.

that's three sporting events (and a car thing) i won't bother with!

re: the vuvuzelas, they annoy me to the point of not watching the wc.

can't remember it being this bad during last year's confederations cup, though i've since then said that this is going to be the shíttest wc in living memory thanks to it.

Even the japan/south korea jcl face paint feast wasn't as bad as this! Or when it was held in the us, a disgusting location and poor poor choice by fifa but still at least I could watch it.

Right now, the algeria vs slovenia match is on, but i prefer watching top model (australia i think, they're talking about crocodiles and kangaroos)

USA have at least 3 better keepers than England has so maybe they can loan 1 out for the duration of the tournement.

the annoying klaxons/vuvuzelas noise during the matches are too much, worse than tinitus and like having a deranged wasp stuck in your ear for 90 minutes. they need to stop!

England has a long tradition of 'great' keepers:

Peter Shilton:

Peter Bonetti:

David Seaman:

Paul Robinson:

Scott Carson:

English teams need to extend Arsenal's policy of hiring young players from abroad in their teens to get good keepers and give them an English passport. Until then, they still have that option with Almunia, who's never played with Spain's national team.

Algeria's keeper is worse than Englands and that takes some doing.

Somebody like Shilton would be usefull because he was good, but I still go with Joe Hart because he clearly is the best even though he's a youngster.

Yeah decent game. Ghana deserve a goal.

meh. neither deserved a win, if anything I thought serbia were better.
Not a great game imo.
The red card was a joke. But yes, hard to argue with the penalty... maybe a bit hard on the defender, but keep your hand down.

bring on aus v ger

Ghana played the more active forward game.

The red card did not play force in the outcome.

Strike one for Ghana on the penalty.

Serbia had better defense though as the saying goes "hands in your pockets", and that cost them the match.

Ghana will party tonight!

Yes, is it too early for pint of the black stuff?

In the Western US, its not even midday.... Tuning up for the game, I favor Germany all the way through.

war of attrition? I hope it doesn't get too bad, although I don't mind a physical game.

Germany wins 1-0 in the 94th minute? :D

Not unlikely. Given how defensive Australia are (they have to be. Their defense is slower than Basso's sprint), and how bad they are at moving on the counter, I'll be amazed if they score a goal that's not from a set piece.

We could be in for a boring game. Then again, this Germany is the exact opposite of what Germany's always been: it's not experienced, it's not predictable and it's not boring!
Then again, no game with Özil in it can be boring :p

1-0 in the first 10. Podolski.

ok, so 1-0 already! Beautiful play (that's coming from a Dutchman)

Hopefully this will stimulate an open match.

To clarify my previous post: Australia are horrid on the counter and I can't see them scoring except from set pieces. In retrospect I see it can seem i was referring to Germany :)

Brilliant movement by Özil. Wikshire daydreaming, Culina miles from where he should be and.....goal.

Podolski is crap at everything...except shooting. You can't leave him alone like that

Nice goal.

I don't get it. Podolski is soooo great for Germany, only recently turned 25 and already has 39 goals... And yet he can't seem to ever get something going at a club level. He's one of the great enigmas.
