I argued he made a number of incredibly basic tactical mistakes that completely burned Australia out of the game and I detailed them in a rational manner, and your argument to the contrary basically amounts to "nyah uh!".

Thanks for the backup, cartman. But Mexico did play a better game, so they deserved the win (just not that particular goal, based on soccer's own rule set).

And for everyone else: His feet were closer to the goal line. It was offside, and it's okay to admit it. Mexico played a better game and won the points, but this one goal was offside.

I hate France but the worst thing about this is the draw england now have.

For england the worst case scenario was that they would have to face France (who barely qualified and the worst of all the seeded teams) in the last 8 and that was by no means guaranteed.
Now to get to the semis they have to beat the following.

slovenia
ghana/ serbia/ australia
south korea/ greece/ uruguay/ mexico

Meanwhile in other parts of the draw Portugal, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Brazil, Ivory Coast, Italy, Chille, Paraguay will all cancel eachother out.

Usually when someone gets an easy draw its because weaker teams have knocked out the big guns. But here england are simply given all the easier teams while the big guns have to fight eachother for the right to meet england in the last 4.

The equivalent of this in a tennis grand slam would be seeding Federer Nadal Roddick, Djokovic, Del Potro in one half of the draw and Murray + the girls under 15 singles in the other.

He's not bad; he's just strict. Teams need to realize what the nature of their ref is and adjust accordingly. In line with how he'd been dishing yellow cards before I'd say Klose's 2nd was totally deserved.

Thats assuming things stay the same here and ghana beat germany in the final match/ beat australia today and draw germany in final match. It would be nice for England to face Germany in the second round, heres hoping.

Now, really, despite FIFA's guidelines and recommendations, there's still too much in the application of the rules that is left to the ref interpretation, and different countries/cultures have different level of tolerance regarding yellow/red card punishments.

Turns out its messed up. The next 2 matchens are group c. Then presumably tomorow back to group d. Cant help but notice that France and England are getting the prime time games. Who says fifa doesnt show favouritism to countries where they make the most money.

Yeah, that is a massive long shot. The Aussies have one hope. The Art of Sledging. Our sportsmen are masters in it. A few choice words directed at Ghana players might do the trick. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. If Australia lose, it is possible Serbia will go through. Ghana would have two wins, Germany and Serbia one a piece. Serbia would only need to pull back goal difference and hope Germany beat Ghana and they'd go through. Either way, Germany is in a better position than France.
