Galic Ho said:Been away a few days. Am I happy? Heck no. First the dog gets run over on Saturday...then Kewell gets carded.
Did it stop there? Hell no! Referees I am sorry to say, are just like the UCI...corrupt and bought hacks. Not all of them but a lot. The goose on the Swiss/Chile game was incompetent. Sub par performance. Last time I saw failure on that scale was when a whale tried to jog on land. Pathetic!
But wait...there is more. Referee for Brazil/Ivory Coast is not handing out cards...but he misses, not 1, but 2 hand balls in a 3 second period that allow Luis Fabiano to score and change the shape of the match. FIFA, p1$$ing on the little guys! Well done. The referee then allows Brazil to dive, play up and act the bragant from the 70th minute onwards. Kidar Kieta decides, F%&K this, I'll do something about it and plays back and gets Kaka sent off. Brilliant! I loved it. Hilarious! Divers receiving their own desert dished into their faces. I was hoping for a brawl...Brazilians would have been smashed. Short story, I loved the irony in a Brazilian being punished for rough behaviour, being innocent and the incident being the exact thing Brazil had been pulling off the entire match. Even better was Kaka running to Drogba to save him from Didiers annoyed teammates. Priceless! MasterCard moment!
Then we go back to Chile versus Switzerland. How does Chile enter the match? Roughly, legs flaying and feet sliding. Aggression, unecessary brutish behaviour and who gets carded? A Swiss player, who'd copped a lot and for loosely tapping a Chilean in the upper neck region...ok two players. Rubbish! The Chileans were not hurt. Not even close. A warning, maybe yellow. No wonder my countrymen call footballers wimps and wooses. Soft little girls dropping like flies. Well it worked. Chile pulled off a win. I hope Spain annihilate those wimps, really go to work on them. The referee handed out so many cards I lost count. He was marshalling his own circus...it was nothing short of a joke and embarassment. FIFA...you suck!
There is a lot more but I've said too much. I think the referees are doing favours...bought men on the field. Favour certain teams and help others. How about the French red earlier? Rubbish...red cards do one thing, they reduce numbers on the field. Football is about numerical superiority, passing, shooting, possession and shot accuracy. This is all achieved through better strategy and tactics coupled with skill. More players increases the chance of you winning over an oponent with fewer men. Still think this is weird? It isn't... bad red carding and making dubois calls (free goals) is akin to match fixing. It is worse than doping...I cannot wait for the Europeans to tell me I am wrong.
Oh by the way...I loved Portugal's game. Awesome! Best football I have seen in a long time. Majestic and they did not dive, simulate or act like fools. They kept it clean and fair. They were simply amazing. Yes, I felt sorry for North Korea. Now I hope Portugal do the same to Brazil and embarass the Samba queens.
Heres how i understood your post
You supported Australia so there must be some great conspiracy against them. I agree that Harry Kewell should not have got a red (though im one of the very few outside Australia to actually think so) because it didnt seem to me to be as bad as the goal line handballs i usually see and his hand was pretty close to his body. However the rules say handball on line = red so i can understand why the ref did give the red. The penalty (from which ghana scored their only hoal) should have been given regardless and since the match ended 1-1 you dont know whether Australia would have got another goal, or even if they would have got as good a chance as they did in the second half (how did they miss). Yes Australia have been hard done by this world cup (especially the cahil red) but they were going to lose to Germany anyway and the Ghana red card wasnt that controversial nor do we know whether Australia would have won 11 v 11. Lets just say ive seen worse.
You dont like Brazil so there must be some great conspiracy by the referees in their favour. When Keita produced one of the most dispicable acts of this world cup, (he didnt wait for a player to confront him and try to get the guy sent off, he actually targeted kaka himself and run there to do a fake dive without kakas knowledge) you say it was a noble protest on his part against the great brazil fifa conspiracy. (did you not notice that Brazil were by far the better side throughout the match. Yes LF did cheat but i saw nothing to suggest cdi would have got anything out of the match regardless). I also find it ironic that you would like to see the team of C Ronaldo punish another team for cheating
You dont like Chille so you say there must be some great conspiracy on their part too. i myself really wanted Switzerland to win that match as it would damage Spains chances of topping the group. However the Swiss player went in with his elbow. I dont think it should have been a red but it was a close call and the referee took the other view.
I think we shoulkd give refferees a bit more leniancy. Yes football is as corrupt as this thing of ours, but not at the referee level as much as at the Sepp Blatter level. The referees dont go out there with the intntion of knocking one side out. They just do as good a job as they can controlling a fast paced match for 90 minutes with 22 players to monitor.
As for players diving you are right, they are diving all the time and its disgusting. For me its not as much about being wimps as about having absolutely no honour (not a quality limited to football i know, but perhaps most prevalent in it).
The most shocking thing for me about this, is not the diving initself but the ammount of respect given to footballers who dont dive (very few). If you dont dive these days, it is considered to be some great personal quality equal to working in a childrens hospital. If footballers had half a brain they would realise that they could get very far by simply not cheating. I remember reading an article about how great Danielle de rossi is because in mid table serie a match once the ball hit his hand and he told the ref about it.
Andrey Arshavin was labelled a true gentleman by the football community in this country because after diving for a penalty he briefly waved his hand at the referee (the cameras interpreted this as him saying no no) before deciding he would accept the penalty nonetheless. I still see videos on tv of robbie fowler doing a similar thing in a liverpool match from 15 years ago.
If footballers had half a brain they would realise by now that being the good guy in incidents like these (especially on the world stage) would be considered an act of huge honour. They seem to be too stupid to realise this.
