BRA 1, CRO 0

I go with history here (what else can we do ;)). Most op. games ended 1-0

Edit: I need it more precise. 58th minute penalty kick by the guy who normally shoots them for Brazil. BTW who is that nowadays?
number 10;)

Won't be that attractive. 2-0.
I know that most opening matches are boring, but do you think it will be the case with Brasil playing?Defensive game, uhmm I dont think so ....otoh Im not that good in football knowledge,so you are probably true:D

Brazil has a pretty un-Brazilian like team.. very solid in defence and midfield, not too many spectacular flair players. 1-0 or 2-0 Brazil is the most likely result.

It's a pretty long time ago Brazil was actually an attacking side. Not anymore. Especially in 2010.

I wasn't impressed with them in their recent game against Serbia and they got booed by their own fans in the end. At the back they were very poor and they bored the pants off me with their attacking play.

Mandzukic is out which is a big loss. A pity because Croatia's midfield is good enough to take on anyone. I wouldn't be surprised with a draw.

The pitch in Manaus where Italy v England are playing, is shocking.

No way Brazil missing the victory today, their group don't look too easy, with Mexico and Cameroon you never know what to expect.Sadlly Brazil is just a shadow these days.

I don't think it's no way they won't win, if they are IMO it will be in a tight game.

Probable teams:

I rate Croatia, imagine Mandzukic wasn't suspended and he was added to it instead of Olic.

It's a settled team.

OK expert, here we go: I am the above mentioned idiot asking you to explain;.....

Don't ask me to judge, I don't like football despite being born half a mile from Tranmere Rovers, and about five miles from Liverpool and Everton!

Zam Olas & Rechtsschreiber might complain... :D

... but yeah, we have to go way back in time.... to 1982 again.
That was soccer from another planet. Zico, Socrates, Junior, Falcao, Eder, Serginho, etc... Brilliant offensive juggernaut. 15 goals in 5 games against world class teams (ARG, ITA, RUS) or at least good Europe standard (Scotland was that back then), not cannon fodder.

No doubt about it. 1982 was the best Cup ever. Games of the century (ITA-BRA, GER-FRA), provocateur incidents (GER-AUT* :D, Schumacher vs Battiston), the awesome comeback of Rossi. It had everything.

* BTW, that game was no fix (as many thought). Stupid Fifa rules were to blame. When Hrubesch (a true folk hero) scored the 1-0, that was it. Not pre arranged, but from that minute on the game stopped. I never blamed the players. Both teams knew they was advancing with that score. I wouldn´t attack either (in any sport) if I am 100% sure to have prevailed. It was a win-win-situation for both teams, because Fifa didn´t let the last two games of each group play at the same time.

Apparently, Italy-Germany in 1970 considered Game of the Century.

82 was an amazing world cup though. Socrates is a remarkable man even if you ignore his footballing skill. This podcast gives a bit more background on him.

It´s certainly debattable. Some say ITA-GER 1970, some ITA-BRA 1982, I go with GER-FRA 1982... So 1982 had two of the greatest matches ever played. Awesome teams like BRA and GER, the 2nd best player ever was there (Maradona), Rossi the goalgetter showed tremendous efficiency as he scored 6 goals on 7 tries (!!!) in 3 high competitive games (2nd round or later)... it was almost perfect. But unluckily Rummenigge wasn´t 100% healthy (still scored goals on one leg though), and Germany may was still a lit exhausted from their semi final heroics. So Italy won. The only bummer. :D

Unfortunately the only thing that remains from Romania WC98 presence is the team that went all blonde
