The Figueira Champions Classic debuted in 2023 as a 1.1 race on the UCI calendar. Teams such as Soudal Quick-Step and Alpecin-Deceuninck rode the race in combination with Volta ao Algarve which was held a few days after this one-day race. The Figueira Champions Classic is no longer a 1.1 race. The UCI has rewarded the Portuguese one-day race with 1.Pro status after the first edition. This brings the race to the same level as Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne or Paris-Tours. If it were up to the organisers, the 'Fig Tree Race' would grow into a real spring classic in Portugal in the coming years. [1]
