The best play is to let Roglic set the pace in the valley, let him hold it for as long as possible, and then take over.

But because everybody is madly in love with Primoz, they don't want to see it.
For what purpose? Closing a gap of 5 minutes on Vingegaard?

No, maintain the gap to the group Onley.
I missed some of the stage. When did Onley close the gap, before or after Lipowitz attacked? To me, I think they should have pushed on together to maintain the gap. Arguably Roglic had more to gain (+1 on GC) vs. Lipo is comfortably in front on white and in GC. IMO his attack accomplished nothing aside from burning himself out.

Onley didn't close the gap at all, Gall, Roglic, Vingegaard and Pogacar stopped pedaling and then Visma set the pace once they were back in the group.

Of course the attack accomplished nothing, yet the team even egged him on. Absolute disasterclass. One of the dumbest ***-ups I have seen in recent history.

Yep, the tactics were highly confusing (hello), otoh as a fan of raceaction ,I applaud the GC situation. The battle for 3rd is really the only thing that is exciting moving forward.

Lipowitz should have have just chilled on the Madeleine.
No he shouldn't, he was 30 seconds behind the leaders group and thats just 100% hindsight. Normally the pace goes down, but Jorgenson deciding to try to crash Pogacar out Kruijswijk-style was the strategy of choice apparantly. The valley was a completely shitshow due to the Bora guys and Gall, the obvious play was just to try and help each other getting 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Jorgenson went so hard on the descent that even Felix Gall could keep up, I don‘t believe in this narrative that it was some suicide descent, although it was fast.

No one forced Lipo to attack on the last climb. That was his mistake (and not the only one today tbh).

What was the reason then? I fail to see it when the first thing you do once in the valley is go in a break with Connor and Rubio and have Jonas do trackstands with Pog. They knew the Tour was over at Madeleine so might as well try to force Pog to make some mistakes I guess.

No, but the team could have called him back and not encourage him to go through with it. If you have radios, use them.

Really unsure if Lipowitz will have any such impact, even if he was to win the Tour some day. Don't know how it is for a really young generation of possible fans, but for the majority of the population my guess is that cycling is still pretty tainted and believe in the trustworthiness of cycling is pretty low overall.

Yea even if he won the tour the impact on cycling in germany and the general interest would be way lower than it was during the Ullrich era. Dont see such hype developing again round any kind of sports star any time soon in germany.

It would have worked if Visma actually had a plan on what happens after attacking on Col de la Madeleine. Anyway, RBH is rather open about having two leaders and both racing in the way they best see it fit. None having any team support in mountains whatsoever, so all in all lets see on where that takes them. So far they are doing rather good and there is still some potential involved to improve.

Lipowitz showed a lot of heart today.
Both times (top of Madeleine and then in the valey to Loze), but he lacked the strength to close the gap to the group in front of him, leaving himself in no man's land. That sapped all his energy and, unfortunately, may have cost him the podium.
It will serve him as a valuable lesson.

The best German GC in the last 15years, congratulate to Florian. And also Austrian, Felix Gall go up to P5. It has been long time that the good GC speaking West Germanic language are those speaking English and Dutch. Finally 2 GC speaking German finish TDF both TOP5
