He was more tired at the end of the stage, thats why he lost time in the final climb

All of 1s

He lost between 15 and 25 seconds to all of the lead chasers who weren't called Tom Dumoulin...ie the ones who had mostly had a free ride to the base of the climb and weren't as tired as him/Dumoulin.

CF has miraculous recovery powers. Some would suspect these are substance aided. Pinot nearly died. Tom was cooked to a cinder. After 2 crashes and 2 weeks of struggling to limit time losses CF seemed fresh as a daisy

Brailsford stated in the Jonathan Edwards and Brian Smith interview, that the next 10 days of his recovery are what will determine whether Froome rides the Tour. What a load of crap.

Pinot had a chest infection, going up and down mountains wouldn't have helped. Yates obviously paid for being so aggressive early in the race. Chaves had hay fever. Avoiding chills and colds etc is a must in a three week race. Obviously Froome had nothing wrong with his lungs.............Dumoulin needed a more stable race like last year. This year's race was a bit too chaotic for someone that doesn't want too much drama on the mountain stages. And his second TT wasn't as good as expected but of course he was beaten by two great TT riders.

any idea what he's pressing (with 600 meters to go on stage 19)?

here's a video someone just tweeted:
https://twitter.com/DeniseBayliss/status/1001207828370087937

That photo there he looks one of the most awful amateur bike riders ever. He looks like a sportive chopper out for a ride who's about to bonk.

Yet he crosses the line looking like he could have done the full stage solo!

Looks like he's 70 years old. This is the worst thing of all with Froome. Looks like an old man struggling every inch of the way but keeps on producing incredible bursts of energy from out of the blue. Sky really struck gold with Froome when looking for a rider who grows a leg on their doping regime. They struck gold.

I think at this stage in the whole Sky/Froome saga, its fair to say that there is nothing, absolutely nothing that they can say that will not be picked up by someone and analysed then spun as necessary to be used against them in one way or another.

Oh, and saying nothing is not an option either...that's a sign of hiding or some sort of cover up :D

Well that’s lies

Oh, look. I’m not going to go into your fitness level and what you know about how I ride or even your contribution to anything.

The point was that that level of discussion seems unlikely to go anywhere.

Well don’t post lies about not moving your hands for hours when you cycle.....

How would know it’s a lie my man. How would you possibly know? Are you incapable of contolling your body for hours at a time?

Way to keep missing the point though. Laters

Rickster, that's a little misleading and you know it. Don't be intentionally thick here.

He couldn't have been that tired, as he was pretty sharp the next day :)

Dont upset the Badger

As a banned doper himself I'm surprised Hinault got his facts wrong about the status of Froome's test.

How is it misleading? Did he or didn’t he lose time to the chasers on the final climb?

I was on vacation last week and totally tuned out on the Giro from Wednesday on. When I saw the news Saturday morning, I nearly lost it. Are you kidding me? It was bad enough this guy was in the race. Then he goes on an 80 km attack? Absolutely no shame.

I've finally had it with pro cycling. It's just a total farce. Absolutely disgusting this scumbag was allowed to even ride in the Giro. And now he's won it. What a complete joke.

So you nearly lost it without actually seeing the race...wow

He lost one second to Dumoulin.

The guy was subpar for two weeks and a half and suddenly pulls off his biggest ride ever.

Hopefully my compatriots, whose relation to doping violations is more virulent, will take action (not in the form of throwing urine, spitting or physically hitting him).

I expect they may well have better things to do with their time and energy, no?

Look, Froome is highly likely to be winning because he's better at doping.

So what? I get so furious about it that it causes me to raise an eyebrow and once in a while furrow my brow. As things go, Froome doping or not is one of the least important things in the world.

Yikes....someone actually made a chart of long range attacks..it’s a crazy world we live in

Naturally no one here expects you to look into the actual detail. That you are incapable of. You fit into the hysterical Froome fan category. Keep up the superficial work, you’re doing a great job son

The fact that it was on the 19th stage of a grand tour makes it all the more remarkable. Listen to Froome being interviewed pre race, it was clearly pre planned and he wasn't ruling out taking pink at the end of the day. That is fairly astonishing when you consider that he was over 3 minutes down and had not shown a level of form that indicated he could take significant time out of his rivals never mind put in an attack from 80km out that would stick. Those justifying his performance as normal by using tactics such as a refuelling plan, superior descending, riding his way into the race etc fail to even consider the sheer physical superiority needed to pull off a performance such as Froome's never mind the fact that he carried it out solo.

Many have rightly heralded Dumoulin's ride as heroic as well and the fact that top riders such as Yates, Aru, Pinot and Chavez bonked so badly at different stages during this Giro, just shows how difficult it is to maintain a level of physical performance over 3 weeks day in day out. To do it in 3 consecutive grand tours and win them all is fairly astounding.
