But by all means that 2007 Fax looked 100% legit.
And the story of how the fax suddenly surfaced in 2015 was very credible, too. Nothing dodgy about it at all.

Michele just clearing out the Dawg's sock drawer one day in the apartment they had newly moved into in Monaco, just down the road from Dr Stephane Bermon's clinic, while Chris was on the turbo, looking at his stem, as you do, and wudn't you just know, there it was at the bottom, along with a couple of old emails from Conrad Venter. The missing evidence was there all those years.

It must be one hell of a place for Brits that Monaco. Paula, Nick Davies, Lizzie, and then there are the Aussies. Tiff Cromwell, LRP. Even Lizzie's ex boyfriend and the Dawg's ex 2007 Minolita team-mate Adam Blythe was there. One hell of a place.

A pity someone made copies of all those blood passport documents the IAAF had locked in the safe in their headquarters in Monaco. Just one domino and look where it has gone !

Wow Tiff Cromwell living the high life in Monaco as a top, ok, well not quite so top, near the top- ish, well near the top-ish on a good day, female cyclist.

So many gems in such a short piece !

“If you don’t wear a pair of heels out to dinner you’re underdressed, no matter where you go,” I know, I know, I was just telling the missus the other day.

“Certainly if I lived in Girona [Spain] easily I’d be putting savings away but I chose to live close to Monaco....... I can go shopping and buy the nice dress, or heels........I don’t feel like I’m living beyond my means there.” Well on a salary from a women's cycling team - who would ? Live in Monaco - just do it.

Surprisingly though, the Canyon-SRAM identity is far from standing on a soapbox. Cromwell isn’t actively campaigning for equal pay... Well that is nice for all the male readers to know, not one of these pesky female nuisances always whining on. I wonder why she isn't ? A bit odd that ? Hmm... I will have to think about that a little more. The cogs are whirring ......

“When Vos comes back sure she’ll be strong but I don’t think she’ll be as dominant because the whole racing level has really stepped up.” Yes, tell me, did we ever find out why Vos was out for so long ? A rib wasn't it? And now not so strong ? Seems to be riding a bit like 2010 tour winner Andy Schleck after Frank got busted. But who knows ? And then that "strong" peloton. Not too sure any of the data really backs up that myth. Still, next year that new women's peloton is now strong enough to even go up a single mountain. Well not all of it, but part of the Izoard, so perhaps she is right.

Cromwell won’t be distracted as the countdown to Rio, now less than 160 days, rolls closer. “I have a huge sweet tooth and dessert is one of my favourite things so the way I try to counteract that is I make these raw desserts,” she says............
“When I’m getting focused certainly for Rio I’ll have to be really strict given how hard the course is. I’ll have to be really lean and super fit for that course,”

Sweet tooth, and needing to get lean for Rio. If only there was something a girl could do to get the weight off ? I know, let's ask a friend ?

Cromwell .......... has also sought advice from Armitstead, who has a race confidence akin to Mark Cavendish.
“Lizzie is one of my best friends both on and off the bike and we talk about anything and everything,” Cromwell says. “We spend a lot of hours training together and she’s helped me a lot for sure. “One of her biggest assets is she knows how to recover and when to recover. "

[I spilled my coffee reading that one ! - You just can't make this stuff up.]

Yes Lizzie is one of the best at recovering. You are riding a pesky nuisance of a race like the Giro and need to recover. So you pull out and get resting. Just tell them you are ill or something. They want you to ride some rubbish race like the GB championships and give you a big bill board, drum roll intro. Just don't turn up. Focus on your recovery, girl, just focus ! After, send in a tweet to the winner like "Wish I was there - but I need to recover." Get the priorities right. Book your band for your post Gold medal at Rio wedding and be sure to wipe your twitter account later if anyone blabs about your three missed tests, but rest girl. Get the weight off and rest. Look at that banned list. Some PEDs are only illegal if you use them in competition. Don't compete ! Them there are the rules. Use them or lose ! Think Monaco ! think new heels ! Think shopping ! Think wedding ! Think band ! Think GOLD !

And then, what phrase must any self respecting sports journalist include in a pre Olympic article - yes, it is there.....now blow the trumpets and give us the drum roll................ then click the "send to print" button.

She starved an appetite for travel in the off-season to focus on marginal gains....

Stem focused training ! Focus on MARGINAL GAINS ! so many things to focus on.

Monaco - make your dreams a reality - move in and win. Live with other winners.

ok Freddy, I understand your view about Monaco getting a negative aura cause Froome lives there.
but I´d suggest to look for a Monaco related thread, or at least take Cromwell out of the Froome´s thread. or look for thread about her team or about her. her interview has nothing to do with the Clinic, nor with Froome. yes he´s a doper. dont worry I know.

That's basically you saying
"I don't know what it has to do with the Clinic or with Froome, therefore it has nothing to do with the Clinic or with Froome", which I'm confident you realize is a flawed deduction.

lovely: Vroom clearly pissed off by WiggoGate... they worked so hard on their image, and now this

---
“We have worked really hard to try to show we are being as transparent as possible. I feel we have made a lot of headway this year, especially on the roads of the Tour. I felt a genuine change in mentality of the French fans, a much warmer reception than it has been in the past.”

http://deportes.elpais.com/deportes/2016/12/04/actualidad/1480880811_593191.html (Spanish)

Sky doctor Roger Palfreeman giving a talk in Doha saying Froome used temporary weight loss through controlled dehydration to be 2kg lighter on mountain stages.

Automatic translation, can anyone fluent in Spanish check it:
...recommended mouthwash with menthol to deceive thirst and generate a feeling of cold. This process he called "training of thermal perception", and also includes, according Palfreeman, medication with paracetamol, which helps change the temperature perception and has analgesic effects, and the antidepressant Wellbutrin (bupropion), which improves performance at 30 degrees. They use concerns the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which has included it in the list of substances controlled use.

But someone else thinks it's nonsense:
"Then there everything is a calculation," explains Alfredo Santalla Spanish physiologist Dennis Kimetto recalling that broke the marathon world record using a strategy of poor hydration. "With the decline of low power plasma cardiac systole and pumping less oxygen to the muscles. It is estimated that with 2% dehydration performance drops 10%. This technique would only work if the gain by coming up with less weight is greater than the loss. "

Other physicians active cycling teams saw no sense to these theories and maintaining anonymity, considered them "part of marketing" of a team, the Sky, the title of most scientific and careful autoadjudica team with detail. "I would never reveal the secrets that made my cyclists run , " said a doctor, remember that anything exposed by Palfreeman is based on scientific studies.

Using antidepressants for heat-tolerance side effects though? Another sketchy bending of the rules if true.

So on the one hand there may be a grain of truth re: dehydration. The sports drinks companies have done a great job of pushing the 'hydration myth' that muscle cramps are caused by dehydration, and that you need to drink fluid continuously during exercise even if you're not thirsty. In cycling this is a big deal because, as anyone who's put two full water bottles on their super-light carbon bike knows, water is heavy. I've noticed this myself, that I can weight myself after a ride and be a kilo or more lighter without feeling a dropoff in performance (I'm still drinking fluids, I'm just prone to sweating a lot when it's warm).

The issues then are a) can certain drugs counter the effects of dehydration and allow you to lose more fluid without performance suffering? and b) is it illegal or unethical to use those drugs? Paracetamol is a known antipyretic (brings down fever) and there are suggestions it lowers core temperature even when it's not warm (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4789353/). Paracetamol is a common drug and it's unlikely to raise too many eyebrows even if it's very bad for your liver if you take too much. Bupropion though - taking an antidepressant with many side effects (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_side_effects_of_bupropion) for heat acclimatisation is not clean cycling as I'd understand it.

Of course dehydration will also screw around with haematocrit, but aren't testers supposed to be using haemoglobin volume instead these days as it's a more descriptive parameter? So I think we're talking performance rather than masking.

But yeah the last couple of Tours de France have seen some extremely hot weather and some riders have struggled massively with the heat. Anyone remember the stage this year that the peloton were all riding with their jerseys wide open, except for Froome and Quintana, who were zipped up to the top? The usual observation was 'well, he's from Kenya', but maybe his tolerance of heat is another area where Sky have been bending the rules.

Roger Palfreeman really only used Froome as a rider to explain the theory, because he used to be a Team Sky Dr before joining BMC. I guess if you're going to talk about data in a conference and relate it to a rider, might as well pick a famous Tour de France winner on a team you used to work on, rather than an also-ran like Van Garderen and Porte you also used to work for lol! He works for Claremont Sports Medicine now, which would explain talking about paracetemol to mask feeling of heat in order to acheive desired result from temporary dehydration for weight loss just before a major climb.

They can't keep their story straight for two days: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/jul/14/tour-de-france-team-sky-dietician

The riders are encouraged to drink – the team term this a "positive hydration strategy" – through tricks such as using cherry juice and other dilute fruit juices, particularly pineapple.

"That way, they're not just using pure water. You see the guys with the bottles of pale, coloured liquid. It's usually pineapple juice." They also go through immense quantities of vegetables – "the chef makes a different vegetable juice every day, carrot, ginger and so on, so they use up to 20 kilos for that. That pushes the riders' fluid intake but also the nutrients without putting bulk in their stomachs." Truly a case of less is more.

Roger Palfreeman has been appointed with Team Sky in 2015 before TDF. The word THEORY was in the article. do we have to do things always the same way if we have evidence that we could be better. we would be still in the Stone Age

Oh please, even if "functional dehydration" was a feasible thing, which i doubt, it would be dangerous for the health of the rider. If it would happen to offer a real performance boost, i don't think it would shine in a three week event, or even a weeklong stage race... I mean i doubt you would recuperate well after going full gas on the verge of dehydration.
One thing that worry me is the mention of bupropion as a potential performance aid. The sooner it is banned by WADA, the better. It's sickening that they seem to be ready to use a powerful antidepressant on mentally healthy people, and the fact that a "doctor" is able to mention that so casusally is depressing... It's not to surprising tough, it's the ideal candidate for performance enhancement as far as antidepressant go, being an NDRI instead of the most common SSRI. It's a substituted cathinone and it's (not fully and weaker but still) akin to amphetamine in it's mode of action. I mean it's actually a good medication for it's uses and the people for wich it "matches" (depression is a tricky thing to treat) , but i doubt you would even dare to call "make pro cyclists go faster" it's intended use, or even "off-label" use... What's next, pumping your riders full of RC by virtue that they are not yet banned? Is 4-methylaminorex on WADA list yet?
