you can count oliveira out as a future itt star, he said he saw himself as a 3 weeks rider(even tho his climbing is very bad) so he will prolly lose some of his very good itt to improve his climbing and become average at both. . .

another wasted talent *sight*

A year with Bruyneel and they all think they can become hangers-on in the mountains for an anonymous top 15

there are more than enough names in this thread to fill a peleton...

well think about it this way: this thread is a list of every young talent some poster believes has the potential to become a big star ofc only about 10% of this names will eventually fulfil the expectations but doesn't mean that they haven't shown signs of having great talent

I don't agree. 1 victory isn't enough for a talent of his calibre and he was consistently disappointing in all time trials of any decent length. It got better towards the end of the season though so of course there is still hope, but he didn't exactly have a "Sagan-esque" first year, as some people expected him to have. I'd say that both Sergeant and Dowsett had better seasons, which one certainly wouldn't predict 1 year ago.

I am not sure you can say he was consistently disappointing in all time trials of any decent length.

97th Romandie - an absolute shocker
7th American Championships - slightly disappointing but not too bad
4th Tour of Austria - Behind Grabsch, Sergent, Gretsch, hardly disappointing
5th Vuelta - Excellent
15th World Championships - Quite good

Not really consistently anything. If that is disappointing then expectations are too high. Mine were never for him to be a world beater although I did put him my CQ team and he did make a profit.
Sergeant had a good season but I don't think it was better than Phinney in TT, especially long ones, Sergeant seems to be much weaker in TTs over about 30 kms, he could not even win the NZ championships. Dowsett did alot of short TT, prologues which he did okay in and won a weak British Championship and then had his best result at the Chono des Nations. Not sure that is better than Phinney's performances in TTs.

the reason spanish talents are going so bad now is because cycling especially in youth has become more and more global, except spain and italy, where riders only ride against each other in junior and elite and rarely abroad and when they do they usually get their asses kicked. this will mean of course a slower growth as a pro but with barely any results good luck getting pro.

yes, but I do think Italy are still producing some very good riders. Sprinters, punchy riders and climbers.

re tt: Durbridge does look very good.

Lars van der Haar and Mathieu Van Der Poel for cx.
I think Daan Oliver could be a pretty good rider in the future on the road.
Marc Goos I reckon joins rabo pro in 13.

I reckon Dan Martin has come on a lot his year despite missing a large portion of the season due to allergies. 3rd at the Vuelta de Catalunya, 2nd and stage win at Tour of Poland, 2nd Lombardia and bar an atroicious TT he rode a very good Vuelta, with a stage win a couple of podiums and attacked the crap out of nearly every mountain stage. Finished 9th overall on the world rankings too.

ya dan martin looks good for the future indeed, even better then i expected earlier this year

Danny came 2nd in Lombardia? wow didnt realise that. The final km of that race were just too exciting, so all I knew was that Zaugg won, Gilbert got dropped and Niemiec finished with heads of state and spent a lot of time discussing that but never even thought to check what the other positions were.

Wow thats pretty dissapointing news, but thanks for the info! Do you know what happened with the Androni-contract?

he didn't have a contract with androni and savio didn't think he was much of an addition to the team for 2012 as vicioso was

I dont think anyone would think that in the short run despite him being talented. Still I wonder a bit why Savio would prefer signing Mancuso, that has barely ridden for 2 years, after being a decent but nothing special amateur. Seems a bit like the weird D'Amore signing last season.

This is a great thread...I'll throw Ben King (USA) into the mix. Slow, steady improvement...he is gonna be a good one.

are you kidding me?? salvatore mancuso? he was one of the greatest italian talents and savio loves to give 2nd chances to riders who for whatever reasons quit the sport or were suspended whatever. that's why he wants rebellin back too. savio is an heroic man. indeed he tried same thing with d'amore this year that didn;t work. but don't worrie they get paid absolute minimum

Part of that is that they come cheap and Savio's history of MacGuyvering a team together with a minuscule budget is famous...

Mancuso had some talent as a climber no doubt, but I really dont think he was that special. Afterall he was not that young when he had some good amateur years (mostly 2007-2008 as 21-22 years old and the real big talents normaly dominate as amateurs before that). For instance the age-succes-comparable Enrico Zen failed as a pro, and btw. some of Mancusos best amateurresults were in Spain (against the, in your own words quite weak competition). If we were back in 2009 I would surely still have signed him though, but now after a mediocre 2009, the complete flop year with ISD (I suppose he must have had some injuries explaining the few races he did?) and a year with no races this season, I find it weird they sign him. But respect to Savio for giving some riders like him a second chance. Im sceptical towards succes but I hope Im wrong.

I think once Leigh Howard moves past track cycling he could be apart of the top echelon of world sprinters. Has a big acceleration and showed bits of that on the road so far.

Only 22, he's got plenty of time :)

Santoro should hopefully join WT sometime soon. I wonder what Bennet will bring to RSNT, good climbing abilities. He seems strong enough. He could be taught by Busche and Hermans to develop into a rider who can domestique at GT's and have a sprint after a hilly course.
