Martins biggest problem is not his time trial but his constistency in high mountains. He has his good days and his bad days there. And on a bad day he immediately loses a lot unfortunately.

He really is the improved twin brother of Mollema. They are the same type of rider, have the same type of inconsistency in mountains, and the same horrible style on a bike. Only Martin is a shade more talented and smarter, while Mollema is a better time trial specialist.
And their careers have amazing parellels as well.

I don't think it's soon enough to say Martin has a serious problem with consistency in high mountains. In Vuelta 2011 he was good enough in them to fight for 5th or so in GC. It was por ITT, 40 seconds penalty and a bad day on a short, steep climb, which made him to finish lower.

In his other GTs he wasn't showing enough "good days" to say he was well prepared, but just lacked consistency.

On the other hand. What is Garmin's roster going to be like for TdF? I think we already have Hesjedal, Martin, Talansky and Farrar pretty much certain of participation. What about the rest?

FARRAR Tyler
HESJEDAL Ryder
MARTIN Daniel
RASMUSSEN Alex
TALANSKY Andrew
VAN SUMMEREN Johan
VANDEVELDE Christian
ZABRISKIE David

cyclingfever has these 8. the 9th could be Millar

Zabriskie has not raced since his fall in Cali, so I don't know about him

Last year in the TDF Martin was on anti biotics (or however those things are called in English). Thats why he wasnt performing very well, he got better and better towards the end of the tour though.

Van Summeren said he wasnt sure yet, and the selection gets finalized next week (wednesday). The last spots depend on whoever has the best results in some tests. But I indeed think that selection looks about right, but I guess Danielson will ride aswell maybe instead of Zabriskie then (or whoever does the test the worst).

whoops, I forgot Danielson.
DZ and Farrar form is unknown anyway

I think Dennis would be valuable asset. Strong point for TTT and proved in Dauphine that he could be a mountain domestique as well.

I like the transition (it's not Garmin-Transition for any longer, though ;)) from a lead-out team to a GC team that the team has experienced over the last 2-3 years. It hurt me so much to see a team lacking proper climbers on almost every GT over the past few years.

No Tour de France for Johan Vansummeren and Thomas Dekker. Garmin-Sharp #TDF line-up to follow next week

still places for???
DANIELSON
MILLAR
NAVARDAUSKAS

I dont think Farrar will be there. If I have to guess I go for.

Hesjedal
Martin
Talansky
Vande Velde
Danielson
Bauer
Millar
Rasmussen
Zabriskie (Not sure if he has recovered from his crash)

Very strong team for the TTT btw.

Nice! Would be a great opportunity for Dennis. He was riding great at the Dauphine so he would be a strong addition to the Tour squad. :)

Certainly a strong addition to the TTT squad.

Although I gotta laugh when these teams say "we'll give him a light programme in his first year, we'll be careful" and they put these neo pros in the Tour straightaway. Opportunism FTW.

It's quite unusual for Garmin to do something like that. They've never been prone to throwing neo-pros or other very young riders straight into the Tour. This will be Talansky's first TdF for instance. It took a long, long time before they thought Dan Martin was ready. And Vanmarcke didn't ride the Tour at all in his couple of years with them. They are probably the three riders who spring to mind first as having been hugely promising young riders at Garmin.

They must really, seriously, rate Dennis as a talent, because otherwise I can't see why they wouldn't go their usual route. Dennis is a little older than the other two were when they were neo-pros at Garmin, but there's not that much in it.

Bit of an odd decision on the face of it.
