Spare Tyre said:This, along with the obsession we have with upgrading to bigger, better & shinier houses, cars, appliances, gadgets, wardrobes, grooming regimes etc etc as if we are entitled to these things. It goes so far beyond actual need as to be absurd and supremely self-indulgent, particularly when one considers the first world's disproportionate consumption of the earth's resources and pollution/carbon emissions which result.
If a person has worked for the money to get the bigger and better things then they are allowed to have it. In general the eastern world does not have a high standard of living and does not get similar pay to what one who does the same job in the western world but that is not to say that one should not be allowed to indulge in something. Some rich people do actually work hard to be able to buy new things and I don't think you should completely put that down as being over-indulgent and selfish. Yes there is an inbalance in the world but people are allowed to have nice things.
